Free Music Notes for Them VS. You VS. MeFree Music Review: 3-1/2 stars -- A classic! (If you don't care about production, that is) Hit: 3 StarsFinger Eleven is another one of those bands that took a long time to really get to the masses. The first time I heard of them was back in 2003 with their self-titled album thanks to the song "One Thing", but afterwards I thought that song was aptly titled because I hadn't heard anything from them after that. But the quintet came back last year with Them vs. You vs. Me and the necessary radio-friendly first single (admit it) "Paralyzer", which was one of the biggest hits of the year (hell, it's STILL in the top 40). The question is, though, does a hit song translate into a hit album? Well, yes and no.
This album pretty much never runs out of rhythmic gems, like "Change the World" (no, it's not an anti-war song), "Talking to the Walls" and "Easy Life". The lone mellow track "Window Song" is also good, although I'm surprised that it's not the final track. Metaphoric tales also impress, as evidenced by "So-So Suicide".
Why all this praise and only three-and-a-half stars? Well, it's no secret that the music to the aforementioned "Paralyzer" bears more than a striking resemblance to that of Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out"; still, I was going to overlook that until I discovered that the same music is also found (albeit at a slightly slower tempo) on "Gather & Give" and "Lost My Way" (which seems to contradict the preceding song, "I'll Keep Your Memory Vague"). I mean, it got to the point that it almost made me say, "Damn; get your own ideas!" Oh, well; whether that sort of thing bothers you or not, Them vs. You vs. Me is worth adding to your collection.

Free Music Review: Grows on you Hit: 4 StarsI have been a fan of Finger Eleven since their very first album. I always appreciated the length between albums, as they keep getting better. I snapped this up when it first came out, and on the first listen, I was really disappointed. It was so different from their previous stuff, and I was let down. However, after a few more listens, this album is constantly on repeat. It really grew on me. Give it a try (or two or three). You won't be disappointed.
Free Music Review: Just buy "Paralyzer" as a single. Hit: 2 StarsI'd heard some of Finger Eleven's earlier work, and thought there was some potential there. When "Paralyzer" started playing, I really liked the sound, picked it up, and played the CD on the way home.
It was something of a let down, as the CD was not cohesive and no other songs stood up to the expectations the single created.
The album's not BAD, it's just BLAND.
I'd say stick to the single.
