Free Music Notes for Them VS. You VS. MeFree Music Review: Elegance, Intricacy, Rock? Hit: 4 StarsFrom the beginning of their career under their moniker and with the release of the album Tip, Finger Eleven has been a contender in the Rock world. Where as most of their albums stand out with two or three songs, Them VS. You VS. Me is a complete and full album.
After the rampant success of the hit single "One Thing", the world of pop music finally took interest. With many looking to the band for another song in a similar fashion, Finger Eleven broke the mold and did anything but. With songs such as "Paralyzer" and "Falling On", their place in rock is still as revered, but with this album it is only the tip of the iceberg.
With each track you're taken on a new journey that is part of the whole. Opening the album with "Paralyzer", you feel the energy and drive that most fans have come to expect from the band. As a follow up, they deliver the track "Falling On", not wasting the momentum they've built on. Next they break into a slower track, "I'll Keep Your Memory Vague" which seems to retain a similar mood from the previous track. They pick the tempo back up and show their roots with "Lost My Way". By delivering on that classic Finger Eleven sound that no one else can create, they bring you to what I view as the next chapter.
"So-So Suicide" brings out a few new elements that Finger Eleven have added into their arsenal of sound blending alt rock with a retro funk feel and making it their own. With "Window Song" you get a warm and calming feeling, allowing your mind and body to recover from the vigorous exercise they've already taken you through. With it's melancholy overtone, "Window Song" makes you feel caught off guard by "Sense of a Spark". The slow building drums and awkwardness of the incoming guitars to the slight transistor radio feel in the beginning of chorus, the whole song feels like a roller coaster ride.
With any good ride you are allowed a moment of sheer enjoyment. With "Talking to the Walls" you feel the sound surround you like a warm blanket, uplifting your mood and allowing you a feeling of satisfaction. With "Change the World" you are brought to a new point. The ride is coming to an end and you have a renewed sense of longing, allowing your feelings of bittersweet joy.
With "Gather and Give" you get a dark autumn like feel, kind of cold, but more suspicious than anything. "Easy Life" wraps the album up, giving you more of that classic sound that Finger Eleven fans have come to love, but again they give it a twist. Their years writing, recording, and touring all have been brought out in their latest serving. They are definitely seasoned veterans of Rock and Roll, without question.
Them VS. You VS. Me is both ground breaking and still every bit of Finger Eleven as any other of their works. With it's Elegance in transition, the intricacy weaved into each track, Finger Eleven have found a way to bring alt rock to a new era. With the only downside being the time it takes for the changes to grow on you, this album receives 4/5 stars.
Free Music Review: Fantastic! Love it! Hit: 5 StarsOf all the albums I've purchased this year this one is definetely my favorite! There is not a song on here that I don't like, my favorite is Falling On. I really like these guys' sound! Highly recommend this!
Free Music Review: Them vs. You vs. Me Hit: 5 StarsThe way I see it, when Finger Eleven got the taste of popularity from the chart-punching "One Thing", I personally knew they'd try and hit a pop-y sounding note again, and I wasn't that off about it, but I wasn't dead-on either. Intrigued? Read on, friend.
You can tell from the first few tracks that the overall tone of the album is a heavy switch from the last, self-titled album, which was a lot of whole lot of rock in a small bag; this disc is pretty heavy on the mellow side, but at the same time, you can tell it just doesn't fit into any existing genre. It kind of fits into all of them, while still being unique.
I've loved Finger Eleven for a long time, so if I'm biased, my bad, so as you will, but in listening to this album all the way through, I didn't see so much a band trying to cash in on the popularity they made 2 years ago, as much as good musical writing at Finger Eleven's finest. The lyrics are written well, like their second album "The Grayest Of Blue Skies"; their music has hints of the heavier tone of their first album, "Tip"; but it's still very refined in its being, much like their last self-titled album.
The music takes cues form a lot of different types of music styles (country, blues, dance, rock, etc.), and from what I hear, there was at one point over 100 songs written and in the ready to be put on the album they had to cut down. I'm very cool with what made it into the 11 track disc.
Is it their best work musically, no, not by my eyes. But it's definetly their most well-thought out album to date. Resting pretty somewhere between the new sound of a band trying to find a place in Tip, and the awesome music of all that is The Greyest Of Blue Skies, this sits closer to the latter. For a fan of the band, a must-have. For a fan of good music, a must-listen. I recommend to any who wants a good taste of great musical writing from a widely open-minded band.
Free Music Review: Plan and simple, they rock! Hit: 5 StarsThe album was deffinately one of the best I've heard thus far this year. I've only been a fan for about a year but I still listen to all there stuff. It has a different sound and feel to it. Now when I say feel I mean that adrenallin feeling you get when you hear a song that makes you move. I tend to dance in my seat when I hear "Paralyzer". Over all, I can't say that this was their best album but it deffinately wanting more of their music. I recomend to to ANYONE who listens to bands such as, Stone 12, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, Evanescence and so on. This is also a great album for a party.
Free Music Review: Finger Eleven Does it Again! Hit: 5 StarsFinger Eleven's latest album proves they are not just a Nu Metal band. They're an amazing Nu Metal band! While similar to their self titled release Finger Eleven, Them Vs. You Vs. Me has a wider musical range than their previous works, and is not limited to Nu Metal. While this has disappointed some hardcore metal fans, Them Vs. You Vs. Me has spread Finger Eleven's popularity more than any previous album with hits like Paralyzer and Falling On.
Personally, Them Vs. You Vs. Me is one of my favorite CDs. While I love Greyest of Blue Skies and Finger Eleven, the addition of funky beats and undertones to Finger Eleven's new album pulls me in. There is a special quality of funk that fills out a song, and makes it flow perfectly. Paralyzer, Lost My Way, Falling On and Gather and Give all have a prominent funk beat and/or sound. For a classic Finger Eleven sound, So-So Suicide, Them Vs. You Vs. Me, Sense of a Spark, and Lost My Way deliver. I'll Keep Your Memory Vague, Window Song, Talking to the Walls, and Change the World all show the slower side of Finger Eleven. While they do not have the intensity of other Finger Eleven songs, they still have the emotion and musical quality that I've come to expect from Finger Eleven.
Overall, Them Vs. You Vs. Me is an amazing CD that will appeal to a wide variety of musical tastes, while still delivering what a Finger Eleven fan would expect. I love Finger Eleven, and I enjoy every song on the album, and not because I'm blinded with my love for Finger's music. It is just plain awesome!
