Free Music Notes for OdysseyFree Music Review: Better Than #1 By Far! Hit: 5 Stars
I bought #1 when it came out in 2002. I enjoyed it but found myself skipping over a few of the tracks considering them to be filler. When they toured San Diego, I was there for their first show. It was a lot of fun but I realized that performance art of this nature loses its appeal pretty fast. Many people I've spoken to about Fischerspooner have complained about the Wire cover on #1 calling it "awful."
Odyssey, the follow-up album proves that Casey Spooner and Warren Fischer are not just a flash in the pan and have wisely chosen to avoid a copy of #1. Odyssey definitely retains their familiar sound, but here they focus more on the lyrics and on song writing. This is electropop, not electroCLASH. I have been listening to this album for several weeks now. That didn't happen when I bought #1. Sure there are some cool tracks on #1, but only a few standouts kept my interest.
With Odyssey, I will be watching Fischerspooner for sure. Odyssey is a great second effort. It surpasses #1 and establishes Fischerspooner as a strong pop act.
Congratulations Casey and Warren! It will now be interesting to see what their live show will be like if they do a tour. I'll be there.

Free Music Review: Much MUCH better than the first!! Hit: 5 Stars
Okay, so the first CD was alright. I really didn't like anything besides "Emerge".
Now this one comes around, and I'm like. "Hmmmm....I really liked that Emerge song...let's see."
So I listen to "Just Let Go". I like it. I decide to buy the CD because the video for the song was pretty neat.
Well I'm very glad I did.
The music is very good. Much more polished than the first album. They seem to have gotten away from trying to be weird "electro/weird/bleep/stuff" and got more into making actual music with lyrics and structure, and I have to say. That was for the better.
I found myself getting lost in just listening to the CD. I didn't even realize the CD had ended and gone on again. That's how good and relaxing this stuff is. It's great music.
My favorite track probably has to be "Everything to Gain". The song really shows off the talent of these musicians. Great buildup, the chorus is catchy, and they add in enough rock elements so that you're just like "Yay!".
Anyway, a great improvement over their first album.
Free Music Review: a huge improvement over #1 Hit: 5 Stars
Now this is a shock. A sophomore album that is leaps and bounds better than a strong debut. #1 is a fairly good album, although it delivers more potential than anything else. A listener could tell fischerspooner was a bit unsure which way they were going, but on Odyssey they arrange their electronics and live instruments into a breathtaking display. Its a dancy, lush, and rock inclined sonic trip. To be honest the first single "Just Let Go" scared me off a bit from buying this album right away. But after hearing how much better the music was in an instrumental sense and disregarding the repetitive and ingratiating chorus I caved and bought the album. And I'm glad I did. For all the experimentation and expansion done this album is not filled with, well, any filler. My personal fave is the bass driven David Byrne lyric donated "Get Confused." But every track on here is offers an interesting take on the new electro sound. Don't take my work for it. Take a listen.
Free Music Review: Breaking the Sophomore Slump Hit: 5 Stars
I really loved #1, Fischerspooner's first album, so I bought this one right away upon release. It didn't grab me at first, but quickly became a favorite--one that I still spin with some regularity.
Fischerspooner break out from the formula established on #1--which was a great formula, but would have worn thin if spread over another album. Where #1 sounded great, there was a serious lack of great songs, a problem which is rectified on "Odyssey." One of the things that's great about Fischerspooner is their attention to the quality of sounds--very few albums I own produce the fabulous sound that comes out of my speakers when I play their CD's. They have added some pretty impressive songwriting to their attention to the craft of electronic recording, which marks this second album as a major achievement.
Free Music Review: How did I miss this for almost a year? Hit: 5 Stars
Somehow Amazon pointed me to this CD based on searches. I'd like to open a formal complaint to Amazon because they notified me of this release over a year too late!!!
This album is pure genius. Every track (save the Bowie mix track 13 on the limited edition) is worth repeated listenings. This easily falls into my top 10 "electronica" albums. Each track is carefully laid out with a combination of live instrumentation and synths, vocals are tight, and hooks are awesome. "Cloud" has been stuck in my head for days. The back to back combo of "We Need a War" and "Confused" are indescribable - you just have to listen.
I'd give this more than 5 stars if they allowed. If you love electronica, but maybe didn't like "#1" that much, get this album. Don't let "#1" dissuade you from this release!
