Free Music Notes for The Battle For Everything

Free Music Review: A must have CD
Hit: 5 Stars

Having loved "Superman" I bought The Battle for Everything after hearing "100 Years". I realized that this was no fluke - I really enjoyed the sound of Five for Fighting. John Ondrasik's voice is so unique and pleasing that he really stands out among other singer/songwriters. With "100 Years", poetically documenting the memorable stages of our lives, he has again struck a common chord within all of us. My immediate favorites on the new CD were "100 Years", "Dying", and "Angels & Girlfriends". "Dying" is a serious love song, while "Angels & Girlfriends" is light and whimsical. I then gravitated to "Maybe I", "Nobody" and "One More for Love". My favorites now are "100 Years" and "Maybe I". The CD is a true gem.

Free Music Review: Songwriting at its finest!
Hit: 5 Stars

As I musician and life-long lover of music, I have discovered that the best songwriters are so easily overlooked. But this guy's talent is obvious and in your face. Exceptional songwriting on this CD. Masterfully crafted melodies resonate in the soul on The Battle for Everything. If you've liked Burton Cummings from the Guess Who, you'll hear some similarities in styles. Each song stands out as one not to skip over. This is a great CD while driving, lying back on the beach, or when you need to get into your own heart or head. However, songs like Disneyland and The Taste will pick you up and get you singing along. This CD will produce more hits this summer. Gripping lyrics; simple and beautiful song writing.

Free Music Review: Another great one!
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember buying "America Town" on a whim because I really liked that Superman song on the radio. That led to me becoming a huge fan of Five for Fighting and John Ondrasik's artistry. I played "America Town" into the ground and craved more. So I was thrilled when "The Battle for Everything" came out. In some ways, it's more of the same, another round with a familiar friend. But in other ways, it's completely different, and shows how the band has grown.

No two songs on the album are alike. "100 Years" moves me to tears, "Angels and Girlfriends" is fun and funky, and "Disneyland" makes me smile. It's good stuff. Try it out.

Free Music Review: Worth Your While
Hit: 5 Stars

Five For Fighting has released yet another awesome collection of hits. My favorite on the track is "100 Years" which tugs on the heart in the right way, while offering a brilliant commentary on life today: Don't think about the things that You haven't done, but dwell on your successes. "NYC Weather Report" is another song that seems destined to be a hit. It is very upbeat, and you will find yourself singing along in no time. The song "Dying" will become an anthem for the people in confusing relationships. Another keeper. In "Angels and Girlfriends," You never really know where they are going to come from next, but the overall effect is good. Five Stars and Two Thumbs Up!

Free Music Review: John Ondrasik carries on the singer-songwriter tradition
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a guy who was raised on James and Carly and Carol, and John Ondrasik makes them proud, both on his previous CD (you know the song "Superman" as a de facto unofficial 9-11 theme) and this one.

And yes, I sought out this CD after hearing the song "100 Years" on that Chase Manhattan Bank commercial, but all it took was a couple of listenings to erase the memory of that.

Great lyrics, beautiful orchestrations and vocal arrangements. Buy it for yourself and share it with your teenage kids. Maybe they'll learn that music isn't what they hear on their local Clear Channel station but instead a confluence of thoughts literal and tonal that speak to the heart.
