Free Music Notes for Flash Gordon (Soundtrack)Free Music Review: THE ROCK OPERA LIVES! Hit: 4 Stars
this may or may not be of any relavance but i am a sci fi fan. tacky sci fi at times. V : The Series, Battlestar Galactica and maybe i will even toss in my copy of The Ice Pirates if i wanna go all out. but this album is INCREDIBLE. The Cords are very rousing and add to the dramatics of this movie. thinking of this movie without queen's harmonious guitars is a wasted effort. queen made this movie a greater success and the final track as the credits roll is pure queen tour de force. the music and freddie mercury's lyrics about heroism make you want to go out and save the universe yourself. your hair will stand on end and yo will truly feel "king of the impossible"! however i did have to deduct one star for an unprecidented level of tackiness but that is the movie i speak of. any sci fi or rock and roll fan would love this album and being that i am both? i love it doubly so.
Free Music Review: Best film music by a rock band Hit: 4 Stars
Definitely one of the better movie soundtracks, this is how original soundtracks should be. Fans of the movie will enjoy sound bites from the movie cleverly mixed in with the music. The album consists of mainly instrumentals ranging from high-energy to spacy, plus lyrics on three tracks. Freddie Mercury's amazing vocal control surfaces on "The Kiss"; Brian May's guitar mastery are demonstrated on his arrangement of "The Wedding March."Along with _The Game_, this album also has Queen's first usage of synthesizers on their recordings. Perhaps one of the pioneers of rock musicians writing full soundtracks for others' movies, Queen did it very well.
Free Music Review: Fun for Queen fans Hit: 4 Stars
If you're not a Queen fan, don't start with this album. If your're looking for goofy fun and a great album to drive to you could do worse. I would like to call your attention to to one track and other than the title song, the only other song with lyrics. The Hero is a hard driving metal extravaganza. One of Queen's hardest songs and often overlooked because it's on a sound track. But like Highlander, who of us doesn't get a few goosebumps when the credits roll and we see "Music by QUEEN" Enjoy being a kid again.
Free Music Review: What the.....? Hit: 4 Stars
Imagine this hypothetical scenario. Back in the 70s, when Queen was at its peak and flounting its "No synthesisers" banner proudly, lets say there was a "Nostradamus" type who would predict that not only will Queen pick up synthesisers, but that all 4 band members would play synths making atmospheric music a la Tangerine Dream. You'd think he was crazy. But it happened, and it works in a listenably cheesy kind of way.
Free Music Review: Good Soundtrack marred by bonus track Hit: 4 Stars
This was one of my first cassettes as a child, so nostalgia got the better of me. Listening to the bits of dialog interspersed throughout this soundtrack put a smile on my face!
This Stephen Marcussen remaster sounds quite good, but I deduct one star from what should be a five star review because of the bonus track, a 1991 "remix" that doesn't flow with the rest of this title.
