Free Music Notes for Fleet Foxes

Free Music Review: Phenomenal Debut Album
Hit: 5 Stars

A friend of mine recommended the Foxes to me and since my first listen to this record months ago, I have been hooked, mesmerized and moved by their music. What I most love about their sound is the mix of 60s folk along with a more spiritual Celtic sound. I certainly haven't listened to enough music this year to say whether this is one of the best albums. However, I've listened to just enough to say that this is my favorite album of the year. From the first notes of "Sun Rises" and "White Winter Hymnal" to the last songs of "Meadowlarks", "Blue Ridge Mountains" and "Oliver James", this record moves my soul. Along with their EP, the Fleet Foxes have me hooked.

Free Music Review: musical benevolence
Hit: 5 Stars

Eccentric and familiar at the same time; the self titled full length from Seattle's Fleet Foxes is nothing short of spellbinding. Borrowing heavily from olden-folk and country-rock, the album packs a futuristic vintage punch, although it's much more like a subtle kiss on the cheek. Peckhold's voice is always in reverberating reverence to the past, and the band's playing constitutes the very same greatness. The music is full of a mystically optimistic spirit; graceful and invigorating, all finespun into a genius work of art unlike anything else. Easily one of the most original and beautiful albums to come along on a long time.

Free Music Review: And the winner is...
Hit: 5 Stars

It is mt habit to give a CD 'Favorite CD off The Year'Award--2009's winner is the Fleet Foxes--I know their two CDs came out in 08, but I was not introduced to them until early 09, thanks to the magic of satellite radio. In what has been a difficult year, the Foxes have provided some much needed moments of beauty and grace. Always a fan of harmony from the Beatles and Beachboys era, these guys caught my ear immediately. The arrangements are right on,lyrics are oddly right (as with a good poem, there are still questions at the end of the songs)and, as i said, the harmonies are fun to try to sing along to. Foxes! Thank you. A real pleasure.

Free Music Review: Spiritual Connection to the Earth
Hit: 5 Stars

This is one of the most original albums I've heard over the last several years. Earthy folk ballads suffused with choir sound gives this album an Edenic feel. Many tracks sound like lush soundtracks accompanying a sojourn through green shimmering glades. But this music is not precious. It's earthy and feels authentic and never pretentious.

I don't read a lot of music reviews, but I have to assume Fleet Foxes have been compared to a band with a similar sensibility and sound--My Morning Jacket.

Those who like the Fleet Foxes might look to these bands: Rosebuds, Midlake, Marjorie Fair, and the Innocence Mission.

Free Music Review: a post-grunge folk pop masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

It's pretty rare for me to buy CD's these days, between my current collection and the music available online I am infrequently motivated to shell out the money for a full length CD. I love every track on this album though and considering it's their first LP, I can only marvel at what is to come. When a co-worker offered to burn me a copy I actually declined as I felt OBLIGATED to put money into the hands of the guys who actually created this amazing music.
The Sun Giant EP is terrific as well (especially the track Drops in The River) but this album in particular I'd say is something of a pop masterpiece. Time will tell...
