Free Music Review: 10 STARS...best Fleetwood Mac album ever
Hit: 5 Stars

There are several reasons I believe Say You Will is the best FM album ever. First and foremost, the spirit of FM is Stevie and Lindsey. Once Stevie did her solo albums, FM albums were a bit hard to take simply because there wasn't enough Stevie! In past FM albums, we'd be lucky to get 3 or 4 Stevie songs and for us diehard Stevie fans that simply was not enough.

Stevie was and is always the mystical lyricist, while Lindsey has always been the great studio experimenter. Together, they are awesome. Don't get me wrong, I like Christine. But Christine had always been the "run of the mill" pop song singer. Granted her songs could sometimes prove to be a nice counterpoint to Stevie's "out there" songs and Lindsey's hardcore weirdness, but overall, Christine was just "there".

So, why is this the best FM album? There is enough great Stevie songs to satisfy the greatest of Stevie fans and there is enough of Lindsey's uniqueness to make this CD truly and unforgettably awesome.

I read many of these reviews and have to laugh...the complaints about Christine not being on this CD come off sounding like people don't want to accept reality. Christine doesn't want to do this anymore. It was her decision. FM has changed once again...get over it and move on. And besides there is enough great material here...

I think the centerpiece of this CD is "Everybody Finds Out". Stevie sounds angry and as we all know emotions lead to great material. Rumours was all out emotions. "Everybody Finds Out" is a great rock song. "Destiny Rules" and "Thrown Down" are more typical Stevie songs, while "Goodbye Baby" and "Illume" are wonderful songs with messages.

Lindsey's songs all seem to have strong political messages, whether it's "Peacekeeper" or "Murrow..."

In summary...there are 18 incredible songs by two of the most talented musicians...AWESOME

Free Music Review: NOT over the hill
Hit: 5 Stars

Don't let people convince you these guys are too old to put out anything worthwhile anymore. So what if they are over 50, this album stands on its own. I don't consider myself a huge Mac fan (I was too young when "Rumours" and "Tusk" came out), but I've been discovering a lot of their material as of late and picked this album up on a whim. I'm glad I did. I can always tell a good album if several of the songs stick in my head days after a first listen. That's a good enough measurement of a good album for me. At 18 songs, there's a lot of material here and it doesn't drag very often despite its length (considered at one point to be double album). Lots of older material here from a Buckingham solo album never completed; if you review "The Dance" he even mentions it and "Bleed to Love Her" makes its way here. The opener, "What's the World Coming to" has a familiar feel to it while "Murrow Turning Over in His Grave" does a complete 180 with Lyndsey really tearing it up with a lengthy solo at the end. "Illume", "Red Rover", and "Silver Girl" are some of the darker tracks here while the single "Say You Will" and "Miranda" are catchy and uplifting as you would expect on any Mac album. "Running Through the Garden" has an 80's pop feel to and it shows Nicks is still very much in form. In fact, it is hard to pick any song here that is mediocre. These guys have been criticized for their versatility, but I like the quick changes of pace they throw in there. Lyndsey's production is great. It's hard to say how different this album would have been with Christine, but even with some familiar sounds here this album has a different feel from past albums. I thoroughly enjoyed this album. The age thing is tiresome and don't let overanalyzing critics tell you this is not another "Rumours". It doesn't have to be.

Free Music Review: A Taste Treat for the Big Mac fans
Hit: 5 Stars

Naysayers will say what they will, but I say "Say You Will" is a great album. Lindsey Buckingham's guitar playing is, in a word, mind blowing! His melodic fingerstyle wizardry is very much alive and well and he serves up some amazing and brilliant embellishments throughout. This is a great guitar album, with soaring lead solos, fantastic classical and Renaissance touches, trippy magic mushroom moments, and some terrific psychedelic 60s raga guitar perhaps inspired by the early days of Buckingham/Nicks when they performed in and around San Francisco, opening for Jimi Hendrix, et al. He is the consummate melodic guitar player, and it is truly genius what he comes up with, especially his arrangements for Nicks. Additionally, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie's contributions couldn't be any more outstanding than what they deliver on this record. Do youself a favor and tune in exclusively to McVie's bass lines, and you will see wherein the genius of Fleetwood Mac begins.

My favorite song on the CD, and the one that most represents the power of Nicks and Buckingham together is "Everybody Finds Out." This ranks up there as one of my favorite Mac tunes of all time. It ROCKS majorly. I just wish they'd featured a dualing duet on the song, "Come." Seems like the perfect song for them to trade shots at each other back and forth.

My only minor gripes about the album are the two moments of studio excess where Lindsey throws in some "helium" sounding vocals... I can just picture Stevie's protests in the studio, as both helium moments happen on her songs ("Say You Will" being one of them.) But then again, he's not like other people, he does what he wants to, as Stevie would say...

SAY YOU WILL is an outstanding addition to the Fleetwood Mac catalog, and one that will absolutely stand the test of time. I'm just thankful they are still making major music together, and that I can still really sink my teeth into the BIG MAC!!!!

Free Music Review: The Mac is Back
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a Fleetwood Mac fan since Peter Green was the guitarist. My favorite projects have been Rumours (of course), Tusk, Fleetwood Mac, Mirage, The Dance, Tango in The Night. That said I was skeptical of Say You Will, esp since Christine McVie, my favorite member and I believe the balance of the band, decided that she no longer wished to perform. I had read that Syevie commented that Christine is very happy with her life in England and that she just does not have the desire any more to go on the road; Chris wanted the band to carry on, but just felt that part of her life was over and wanted the remaining members to produce a classic. Lindsey, Stevie, John and Mick are excellent in their own right but it was Christine that I felt was the steadying influence. I was sure that this would be a project like Behind the Mask. I WAS SOOOO WRONG!!

Say You Will may be the best project put out by Fleetwood Mac since Rumours. In fact, dare I say it, Say You Will may at least equal Rumours!

My favorite songs ... well actually I love them all, which is something I have not been able to say about any Mac project, except The Dance and Greatest Hits. What's The World Coming To, Miranda and Bleed To Love Her, from The Dance CD, are vintage Lindsey Buckingham. Thrown Down, Goodbye Baby, Silver Girl, Illume and Destiny Rules show you that Stevie has lost nothing as a team player. Say You Will, PeaceKeeper and Smile At You are getting a lot of air play and rightly so - they sound like vintage Mac compositions. Mac does take chances though with Murrow Turning Over In His Grave and and a hard rock, Come, which I hated at first and now find the more I listen the more I enjoy.

Do yourself a favor .. buy this CD. If you don't have Rumours, buy it as well and listen to them together. I think you will agree that they are 2 of the best pieces of musical entertainment out there.

Free Music Review: VERY WELL WORTH THE WAIT
Hit: 5 Stars

Being a huge Fleetwood Mac fan, I waited a long time for this album and I wasn't disappointed. The absence of Christine Mcvie was somewhat apparent, though for me, Stevie Nicks was always the highlight of this band and with Christine McVie gone, there came more room for contributions for Nicks. The 18 songs here are split equally by Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, whereas before, Stevie usually had about three songs on each album, when there were usually about twelve tracks..not very fair, considering a majority of the people bought the albums for her songs.
Most of the songs on "say you will" are old songs that were never recorded. Most of Lindsey's songs were supposed to be recorded for his last solo album, while Stevie left a bunch of old demos for the band to work on while she was off touring the year before for here "trouble in shangri-la" cd(which is an amazing album!). The vocal harmonies between Stevie and Lindsey are totally amazing and like no other, though this is where Christine is sometimes missed. She did give some balance in the harmonies and the three of them always sounded amazing together. Mick Fleetwood and John Mcvie are just incredible musicians who always carried this band as the strong backbone that they are...and who could overlook Lindsey's guitar playing. As far as I am concerned, he is the greatest guitar ever. When he left the band in 1987, right before they were going on tour, they hired two new guitarists, rick vito and billy burnette, to take his place..that's how incredible he is!
Some of the classic mac standouts on this album are: what's the world coming to, miranda(could have been on "tango in the night"),running through the garden, destiny rules, say you will, peacekeeper, and goodbye baby(which is the closing song to all of their shows). This is an album to add to your collection!
