First, I must respond to the negative reviews that have little to say except that FM are "has-beens" and/or moaning & raving about the absent Christine McVie. This CD stands on par with what should be expected of veteran performers. Alas, most other groups with the incredible reputation of FM limit their releases to repackaged hits with maybe one new song; their creativity has apparently been tapped out. "Say You Will" is FM UNLEASHED. Lindsey and Stevie's songwriting and performances are incredibly energetic & vital. These songs are superb. And for those who miss Christine McVie's contributions, please listen to her new solo release and you will quickly realize who needed whom. Don't get me wrong, she is a music legend. But nothing on her CD indicates an artist in their prime. "Say You Will", however, shows a band in their PRIME, utilizing and building upon all of their talents & knowledge, challenging themselves to make great music. If there were doubters, "Say You Will" proves that musicians can still create magical, amazing, and brilliant music in their 50s. (Brian Wilson isn't the only one.) This CD shows musicians who still care about & desire to make great music, not tow the line and ride some wave of nostalgia. This is also a great example of why I seldom listen to radio, that inexplicably never, never play new music by artists over 40 (unless you are Sheryl Crow). In my book, these should have been top 10 hits: What's the World Coming To, Say You Will, Peacekeeper, Steal Your Heart Away, Bleed to Love Her, & Thrown Down.

I am a relatively newcomer to Fleetwood Mac. 1997's Dance helped to reintroduce me to many of their greatest works. I as of yet have not obtained every Mac album or have even heard every song. Still, this album delivers for me.Every track on this album has something to offer. The music is deep and complex. The voices are used and considered an instrument in the production. The use of stereo is splendid. I imagine the dvd-a version is oustanding as well. The bass and percussion are oustanding as always. Lindsey continues to shine and make me wonder why he doesnt get more praise for his talents on the guitar. Stevie's "mystic" sound and lyrics astound. When her songs are given to Lindsey and "Mac'd" its pure magic. There is something on this album for everyone. There are tracks that feature the "classic" mac sound only they can do. There are pure rockers that will shatter ear drums when played live. There is even a song i could see being played in dance clubs around the country. The final track on the album is a sweet song by Stevie that touches you in the heart no matter how much you fight it. One of her most beautiful works. Christie is missed. On a few of the songs i can imagine how she would sound performing them. She may have brought a bit more balance to the album overall. Still, this album is a gem. It is stong enough to satisfy loyal fans while new enough to bring in many more. Its not pop, rock, blues, or country. Its fleetwood mac. They are truly a genre of their own. Enough said.
Free Music Review: Beginning to end...it doesn't get better than this. Hit: 5 Stars
Lindsey Buckingham has always been known as a kind of "mad genius" when it comes to his production work in the recording studio. It something fans have come to love about his solo work. Whole albums of the mad genius. But never in his career has Lindsey been so clearly over the top brilliant than on the new Fleetwood Mac album "Say You Will." And never in the history of the band has he been able to mix his own style with that of the hit making machine of Fleetwood Mac so perfectly. That said, "Say You Will" is a breakout album for Stevie Nicks. This is the most experimental she has ever been. Using her voice as an instrument, as part of the intricacies of the song itself. The standout songs are Lindseys "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" and Stevies "Illume (9-11)." There are so many wonderful things going on in the former you feel at some point you may experience overload and your head will explode. (Always listen to a Buckingham produced song with stereo separation for the best effect). And Stevie makes the listener feel her words rather than just hear them in the latter. She has never been stronger or sexier than she is on this album. Christine McVie is glaringly absent on the album and while you stop short of saying sorely missed, the incredible optimism that she can bring to to the Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac leaves the listener with the uncomfortable feeling that something just isn't right. With the experimentaion on this cd, it will be interesting to see what the typical Fleetwood Mac fan might think of "Say You Will."
Free Music Review: Mac is back... Hit: 5 Stars
It has been a long time since any new Fleetwood Mac music. They wet our whistles with THE DANCE, and those of us who were waiting for this reunion album knew it would only be a matter of time. And now we have Say You Will. I Do love this album. REALLY! HOWEVER... some critques. a) at times, this album seems like a BUCKINGHAM/NICKS album. Out of the 18 songs, Mick and John had a hand in writing....none. Other than playing on the all the tracks, there are moments that I got lost in either Stevie or Lindseys's songs, forgetting that this was a Fleetwood Mac album. That's not a BAD thing, but it does need to be pointed out. b) the lack of Christine, who has opted out, does leave a hole. Now, with only Stevie singing in her mystical way and Lindsay in his Hard Driving Rocker way, there is no balance. Christine, we miss you These two points aside, This Album Does capture the soul and spirit that we have always associated with this incarnation of Fleetwood Mac and makes the passing years well worth the wait. If you only know Fleetwood Mac from Rumours, you need to check this one out. If you know Fleetwood Mac from all their albums, add this one to your collection. If you know only Stevie Nicks or Lindsey Buckingham as a solo artist, this will help you discover their talent as a part of one of Rock'n Roll's greatest bands. Whatever reason you want for getting this, GET IT. After one listen through, you will want to permanently add this to your cd playerPEACE scotty
Free Music Review: The best Fleetwood Mac album EVER--bar none! Hit: 5 Stars
I have been an avid Fleetwood Mac fan for as long as the Buckingham-Nicks version of the band has been around, sticking with them even through the midly disappointing Mirage album and the hugely disappointing Tango in the Night. It was worth waiting around for them to come back to top form and surpass themselves. I have to admit, I've usually skipped over Christine McVie's tracks as too middle-of-the-road pop and a bit trite. So I can't say I miss her presence much. I have long thought that Stevie Nicks is the most consistent song-writer in the band, but, and I never thought I'd admit this, Lindsey blows her away this time around. He has overlain the inventiveness and quirkiness that marked some of his more "rough-edged" tunes on Tusk with the melodiousness that is Fleetwood Mac's signature sound. And his lyrics show a richness and maturity seldom seen in his earlier work, which has always been a bit "spare" in the word department. Nicks' self-focus and meandering lyrics and melodies are getting a bit tiresome; still, her voice sounds better than it has in years and there is simply no one on earth who can blend voices with Lindsey Buckingham like she does. "Miranda" is the best track on the CD. The back-to-back "Say Goodbye" and "Goodbye Baby" are gorgeous and so emotionally charged that you can't help but have a good cry the first time through, no matter how unsentimental you are, once you realize whom they're singing to.
