Free Music Notes for Flight of the ConchordsFree Music Review: Great cd and great service Hit: 5 Stars
My son asked for this for Christmas, I found out I loved it too. Great cd!
Free Music Review: Great CD - picking up many nuances i missed watching the show Hit: 4 Stars
First up, after reading the other reviews, I have to say I LIKE "Leggy Blonde"! Esp. that part Jemaine breaks into before the end of the song!
I am noticing alot of musical things about the songs that I missed when just watching the show episodes over and over, for instance, I never realized that "Inner City Pressure" is a pastiche of the Pet Shop Boys' "West End Girls", even tho I knew there was something very familiar niggling away at my brain whenever I heard the song.
Without the distraction of actually watching the guys, I can really appreciate how clever the lyrics are, and the instrumentation. I'm just in awe of these guys.
I also miss "Frodo, Don't Wear the Ring", one of the funniest things I ever watched/listened to.
I would recommend the EP THE DISTANT FUTURE as a necessary companion to this CD.
But really, no major complaints, and I don't think many others are complaining too much either, judging by how very popular this disc is in all the various ways one can buy it.
I'd rather complain about the lack of extras on the first season's DVD,and maybe hope for a follow-up to include some of the missing songs. And wouldn't it have been nice to have "Doggy Bounce" as a hidden track?
Free Music Review: Great Fun Hit: 4 Stars
After hearing a couple of tracks on the Australian DIG Internet Radio, I took a leap of faith and purchased the CD. I wasn't disappointed. I could leave a few tracks like "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" and "Mutha'uckas" (although I catch myself mumbling the latter when stuck in traffic); however, gems like the Pet Shop Boys-esque "Inner City Pressure" and the extremely danceable "Business Time" completely make up for what the aforementioned lack. Once I heard "Bowie", I realized that this was the same group a friend had sent me in a video clip. Not having HBO, I was unaware of the show. Perhaps, in this case, ignorance really is bliss. The Conchords also provide subtly biting social commentary which surpasses what appears on the surface as a couple of fumbling college sophomores, as exhibited in the juvenile "Leggy Blonde". Great for its wit (riffs were were quickly added to the humor lexicon of my circle of friends) as well as its versatile and expert parody of various popular music styles (the high production values really enhance this aspect), The Flight of the Conchords makes a great addition to anyone's party or housecleaning play list. Lots of fun!
Free Music Review: Great quality but lacking... Hit: 4 Stars
Okay, I am a HUGE fan of Flight of the Conchords! I fell in love with them through their show. It's exactly my sense of humor. So, I really love the music, too. It's so funny! Well, the only thing keeping my rating from being 6 stars is
1) you can only put 5 stars and
2) the album contains maybe half of the songs from the first season. Now, I suppose I should have known this by looking at the list of songs beforehand, but I was just disappointed when I realized just how few of the songs made it. No Albi, no Doggy Bounce, and a few of the songs included were different than the versions in the show. That isn't necessarily bad, but I much prefer the TV version of the Boom King, for example.
So, the bottom line is, I would suggest buying it, but then supplementing it with the left-out songs from the internet. I definitely would have bought more songs if I could have, but they only have 2 CD's, and The Distant Future has only a couple additional tracks.
Free Music Review: Always a good bet Hit: 4 Stars
Let me start off by saying, I do agree with most of the reviewers that this album feels a bit to polished to keep 100% of the charm of the Conchords, but I also do highly recommend it. I played some of the tracks for some friends that had never heard of FOTC and they still laughed and enjoyed the songs. I also would have liked to have seen a few more, well all, songs on this album, but I understand a bit about marketing and traditional CD length as well to realize that it is not too likely to have everything on one CD. I think there may be a second CD coming out in the future, or possibly they were left off to get you to buy the series.
All in all, I really enjoy this album, I also have their Distant Future album which includes some of the same songs some of which are done live, some not. I recommend them both as a set to get the full experience, or if you are buying for a FOTC fan.
