Free Music Review: It was 1968 and Pat Paulsen was running for the White House

Paulsen was, as you might recall, unsuccessful in his run for the White House. But years later he actually did get on the Democratic ballot for the New Hampshire primary, so this political comedy ended up being more than a one [time] deal for Paulsen. But why not? After all, this was the man who once said "In America any body can grow up to be President. Or, if he never grows up, Vice-President." Surely we have lived to see those words come true. Then there was Paulsen's claim that he was neither left wing nor right wing, but rather, more middle of the bird. Has not America moved towards the middle, disdaining the extremism of liberals and conservatives alike?

Obviously "Pat Paulsen: For President" is an album for those of us who remember both it and the ultimate fringe candidate from the Campaign of 1968. I made the mistake of letting somebody borrow my first copy of this album when I was in college and it was about 25 years later that I finally found another one in a used record store. Having it on CD is great. Now we just need them to release "Pat Paulsen at the Icehouse" and, of course, all of the Smothers Brothers Albums.
