Free Music Notes for The Very Best...And BeyondFree Music Review: Foreigner is Still Great,Especially to us fans. Hit: 5 StarsForeigner was one of the most successful bands of the late 70's and 80's.Their hard rock anthems, and classic power balads pushed them to the top of the charts.A lot of people have rated them poorly, saying their no "Led Zepplin".Fact of the matter is Foreigner never tried to be Led Zepplin,The Rolling Stones,Aerosmith,or Pink Floyd. However for people who like fun music, you can hum and sing along with,Foreigner is A classic. This album has all their great hits,"I Want To Know What Love Is","Urgent","Juke Box Hero","Cold As Ice","Feels Like The First Time",amoung others. If you want music, that'll make you happy, and bring back great memories of the 70's and 80's ,check this out.If you don't like "Foreigner",then go buy something else.Music is still enjoyable, whether it's corporate or underground.
Free Music Review: Slightly Dated Hit: 3 StarsI bought this album when it first came out, having been a casual Foreigner fan. Every now and again, it's good to bust out some mindless rock just to let off some steam and this album works well for that. All of Foreigner's hits are here in one place and I enjoyed the newer songs "soul Doctor" and "Prisoner of Love", while "With Heaven on Our Side" receives a "meh". One thing that struck me on recently listening is how dated a lot of the production sounds to me. It's got a very glossy sheen to it, unlike the more organic sounding recordings that I seem to enjoy these days. But that's really just a personal preference. The songs are good for what they are, which is AOR rock. Foreigner were about as deep as a teaspoon even in their heyday, as shown by their lyrics. Still, they were good at writing catchy, if simplistic tunes. I would file this one under guilty pleasures.
Free Music Review: Very good "best of" Hit: 4 StarsThis is another "must have" album for any person who wants to travel in time and go back to the 80's. The choice of track seems perfect for me. As far as I am concern, if you are looking only for the "hits" from the band, I think this cd has them all.
Free Music Review: SOLID CD Hit: 5 Starssome reviewer gave this disc 1 star! Gee, 1 whole star?! Obviously that person is no Foreigner fan. Foreigner put out some great music in their heyday and a lot of those cuts are found here. Lou Gramm is one of the great rock voices and he's well represented here. For those not familiar with the band this is a good CD to get your feet wet. The 1 star reviewer is entitled to his opinion but it isn't a very good one at that. This is a solid disc.
Free Music Review: Not so foreign at all... Hit: 4 StarsForeigner is not one of my favorite musical artists, but I do like most of their hits. I bought this CD to get my 2 favorites, "Waiting For A Girl Like You" and "Urgent". "Waiting" is like something out of a beautiful, hazy dream, and "Urgent" is hot, hot, hot, especially with that sax. I also like "Juke Box Hero", "Double Vision", "That Was Yesterday" and, of course, "I Want To Know What Love Is". The CD kicks off with 3 newer cuts that were not hits (to my knowledge), and they are OK, but they sound a little forced, as if the idea was to make new songs that sound just like the old hits. They're not bad, just not very inspiring. On the other hand, some songs that I didn't love that much back in the 70's sound really good on this CD, such as "Cold As Ice" and "Head Games". So, all in all this is a fun way to revisit the mid-70's to mid-80's, and if you like guitar-based rock, I would recommend it. I can't think of one hit that was left out of this collection.
