Free Music Notes for Grand WazooFree Music Review: FZ On Jazz Fusion Steroids! Hit: 5 Stars
Three great Zappa jazz-fusion albums, Waka/Jawaka, Hot Rats and Grand Wazoo. The latter is the best of the three. All three are must-haves if you want to explore Zappa. Another must-have is Jazz From Hell but it's a challenging listen! There's one more must-have. Apostrophe is one of those rare instances where pop meets superb composing and musicianship. Much of Zappa material became silly anti-establishment expoitation and goofyness. Some of it became very popular and FZ made a fortune from it. More power to him I say!!
Free Music Review: Where Has This Been All My Life? Hit: 5 Stars
I have listened to and loved Frank's music for more than 35 years. Somehow this wonderful recording "fell through the cracks" for me and I've only just now heard it. I thought it to be a piece that was a real leap in the prowess and maturity of Frank's art and production technique. I can't believe I missed this. If you consider yourself to be a fan of Frank Zappa's you must not let this one get away. It is essential to the conceptual continuity, and really fun to listen to.
Free Music Review: zappa = genius Hit: 5 Stars
boy, when I get tired of hearing what passes for music in 2002, I put on this CD, real musicians playing real music, it's light years ahead of anything else out there. If you think Zappa is just novelty songs then you don't know what you're talking about. Listen to this or Waka/Jawaka or Hot Rats and then talk to me about Zappa. Bands will be playing this music 200 years from now, this is the classical music of the future, everything else is garbage
Free Music Review: FZ gets serious Hit: 5 Stars
Quite simply put, this is Franks best album. All of the instruments sound great, the soloing is magnificent and the compositions are very sophisticated. The rhythm is very funky and the horns are a blazen. The album quietly ends with "Blessed Relief" which is the most beautiful song Frank has ever written. Enjoy! And then when you are done listening to it, run out and buy Hot Rats.
Free Music Review: Spring this album on an unsuspecting jazz snob Hit: 5 Stars
Excellent jazz work from FZ. Slip this album, especially "Blessed Relief" or "Eat That Question" to a jazz snob and see the reaction you get when you tell them that they're enjoying the smooth sounds of FZ. Fun music, yet soothing and thoughtful, this is a fantastic addition to any FZ or even a jazz fan's collection. Enjoy.
