Free Music Notes for Just Another Band From L.A.

Free Music Review: Just Another Band? This could only be Zappa!
Hit: 5 Stars

Frank Zappa's muse was running in full swing on this 1971
live record. From the nearly half hour "Billy The Mountain" to the
very last number Zappa,Flow,Eddie and the Mothers radiate with
the same kind of biting wit and brilliant compositions that
made their recent album and film '200 Motels' so enjoyable for
it's audience!Even though 'Just Another Band From LA' can't even
pretend to be as inspired or riotous as '200 Motels' was it is definately in the same league and should be considered accordingly! These guys certainly knew how to mix it up and
wheather it be in the studio or here on stage the Mothers always
get an entertaining point across!

Free Music Review: One of the best Zappa albums.
Hit: 5 Stars

I have over 30 Frank Zappa albums, and this album has made it to my top 10 favorite Zappa albums.
Every song is just astounding.
These two tracks are the highlights of the album.
Billy the Mountain: One of the greatest and hilarious songs Zappa ever made and his longest too.
Call Any Vegetable: I enjoy this version better than the one off Absolutely Free. It's really good.
The three other tracks are great too.
This is an album that should be part of your musical collection.
Get it. You'll love it.

Free Music Review: Best Flo and Eddy album
Hit: 5 Stars

IMO this one's better than Fillmore East. Not neccessarily more focused (Flo and Eddy could not operate in a focused, directed way), but musically this is quite interesting. You may not find any of the musical magic of the Roxy years (or Grand Wazoo, or Broadway etc) but "that is not the aim of our show". Great stuff. The guitar solo in Dog Breath, the cascading drums in Billy, the vocal ad libs in all songs show that this band was cooking and using what it had for maximum effect.

Free Music Review: A Funny Anti Establishment Album
Hit: 5 Stars

As a child of the late sixties and early seventies, this album brings back fond memories. The saga of Billy the Mountain, Ethel the Tree and Studebaker Hawk is silly and vulgar and reeks of the anti establishment fervor that was rocking our country during that time.

This isn't an album you can enjoy as background music all day. This is an album you listen to intently, in order to enjoy its wonderful weirdness. It's a twisted time machine.

Free Music Review: JUST BUY IT...!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

That's Right... You Heard Right..!! Just buy it...!!!

Any FZ is obviously worth having -- besides, Billy the Mountain is a classic and Frank's amazing guitar solo on Magdalena is... well, blisteringly amazing..!!

So, just buy it -- and don't be overly critical of the fact that FZ was likely targeting it to his younger audiences.
