Beefheart's presentations of Debra Kadabra, Sam With The Showing Scalp Flat Top, and Man With The Woman Head are flat-out amazing and worth the price of admission.
And Frank's guitar work on Carolina Hard-Core Ecstasy and Muffin Man is again consummate.
This is one of the most unique Zappa productions -- and a must for any fan.

This is definitely the most melodical Zappa compilation that there is. In line with the 250 year old discovery of the US, this album is not only patriotic but also a definite must-have for every American. As a matter of fact, if you can remember the words to Poofter Froth Wyoming you should automatically become a Citizen. Great music, wonderful lyrics from the golden era of music. If it wasn't for this album, I probably never would have gotten into The Captain. I used to skip over the Beefheart tracks and just play the Zappa tunes. But no more. Beefheart's lyrics and vocal inflections are both hysterically funny and scary at the same time. Zappa's Muffin Man is probably the ultimate electric guiter solo. Boy, I don't know how I called myself a Zappaphile without owning this gem! A recent acquisition for me, I was totally blown away ... Captain Beefheart is at his (musical) creative Zenith, and Zappa's guitar work (especially on "Muffin Man") will bring you to tears. A wonderful addition to any Zappa collection, but probably not accessible enough for neophytes.
