Zappa goes back to his roots & writes what I would call a doo wop album,although it is much more than that. Every Zappa fan should own this one. A good first album to start with if you are not a Zappa fan as is 'HOT RATS'. I love the way Zappa sucker-punches everyone with the outro guitar on 'STUFF UP THE CRACKS'. I don't know if the man was genius or not but he left some impressive music behind.

Zappa does a great job swinging to the 50's sounds with this music. The music is entertaining and the cover is great. Our family discovered this years ago; it got lost over the years (we had a cassette) and I just looked for it on Amazon and found it. There are several kids (now in their 30's) who grew up listening to and singing 'Jelly Roll Gumdrop'. Being only 18 I was far from born when this album was originally released.. however, I think this is an excellent album for any zappa fan that enjoys the doo-wop style of songs like, Be in my Video, Go Cry on Someone else's Shoulder.. or any songs on this album. I listened to this stoned or tripping often in the sixties. Hearing it again with too many years under the bridge makes me realise the genius of Zappa.
Funny, satirical, affectionate, experimental, subversive and brilliant. - hey, I think I'm even gonna drop another trip.
