Free Music Notes for Over-Nite SensationFree Music Review: As commercial as Zappa ever got Hit: 5 Stars
If you're just getting into the music of the great Frank Zappa, then this is the place to start. It's easy enough to digest, satisfying enough to fill you up, and tasty enough to keep you coming back for more. The songs here all reach classic status, and some are even radio-friendly (Oh No! I don't believe it....). The performances here are all tight and energetic, yet not too complex so as not to lose the average rock consumer. Most - no, all tracks feature Zappa's usual wry and rewarding humour, and some border on the smutty. If you're turned on by songs about canine gratification, bets concerning sexual prowess and dental floss farms, then you're the type of twisted candidate who qualifies for enjoyment of such bizarre and wonderous musical oddities. But be warned - once you start getting into Overnite Sensation, you WILL be compelled to visit other recorded voyages of the late great unclassifiable artist.
Free Music Review: Concept music at its best Hit: 5 Stars
'Overnight Sensation' is unquestionably one of Frank Zappa's greatest albums. It's a shame that their are only seven songs on the Album. What you have though, is three of Zappa's greatest songs on one disc. The music and lyrics of 'Montana' are compelling, 'Dinah-Mo-Hum' is Zappa combining brilliant music with autobiographical lyrics, which will could make you die with laughter. The finest song on the album though, and one which none of the other reviewers have noted is 'Camerillo Brillo', I cannot eulogise enough about this song. The lyrics are quirky, amusing, eclectic, and absorbing, the combination of guitars and piano is pure poetry. I believe this to be Zappa's greatest song and i'd buy the album just for this song.Lyrics from this song 'She had a snake for a pet and an amulet, and she was breeding a dwarf but she wasn't done yet!'. Buy this album!.
Free Music Review: Hilarious Album Hit: 5 Stars
This is definally a album potheads will enjoy. Very weird, but funny lyrics. Is this his best album? No way but it still is a must have for the Frank Zappa fan. He attacks commercialism with 'I'm The Slime' He's talking about some girl he 'you know' in Dinah-Moe Humm. Raising Dental floss in 'Montana' I like how he used a typical rock signer in Fifty-Fifty and made fun of the signing style. The most famous and successful song off this album is definally Dirty Love which is a good song I think. The title alone explains what it is about.
People will complain the songs don't make sence, but the weirdness of the subject matter is what makes it great.
Again, the clips alone cannot give you a true sence of the album. Make a gamble and get the album.
Free Music Review: Nutty zany genius Hit: 5 Stars
songs like ZOMBIE WOLF and FIFTY FIFTY just stand out as classic wild songs from outer space. Even for Zappa, these two songs are some of my favorite constructions that he ever came up with. Totally amazing singing from an artist that only made it on to one FZ recording before overdosing which makes you wonder just what would have happened to the FZ catalog if this person had not done what he had done and overdosed. The guitar playing on this CD is just legendary. FZ plays as if he is possessed. The strings on his guitar shine with SG beauty. A must have for those who really enjoy FZ shredding. This is an essential, as most FZ recordings are, for any music fan that likes something different and entertaining.
Free Music Review: Every zappa fan should have this on RECORD Hit: 5 Stars
Im sure the cd is pretty good, and my comments on this album would much reflect those views below (especially to get this one with Apostrophe -they used to be on a failed two-fer disc together). But when it comes to the artwork, WHATS THE DEAL??. It appears the front cover of the cd only shows about 1/50th of the amazing, intricate and TRIPPY artwork on the record?!?!. Pls correct me if the artwork is somewhere in the booklet or something but it really has to be seen. Anywayz, if u cant get the record get this, as it is a good induction into the world of Zappa, then definitly get apostrophe(*) and Sheik Yerbouti. Then consider delving deeper into the less accessible zappa.thanx for reading Dylan
