To say that ONE album is the best among more than sixty very good ones may seem at least strange. But if you go through all of them here at Amazon, you will see that every single Zappa cd has at least one review saying "the best". To me, IF I HAD TO PICK ONE, that would be Over-nite sensation. Some of his best songs are here, mixing the intrincated riffs and not-of-this-world tempos, with beautiful melodies and tasty playing ( from all musicians ).A very close second is ZOOT ALLURES.

Ever since I was a small child in 1974,I have been hearing of Frank Zappa.He attended the same school as my dad and step-dad.One of the albums we listened to at that time was Over-nite Sensation.Besides bringing back many happy memories of that time,the album stands alone as a superb example of everything Frank Zappa stood for in the world of music.His daring and provocative lyrics, combined with the complex melodies become a 100% pleasurable listening experience.Long live the Zap!Free Music Review: Underrated Classic

This one just keeps growing on me. The depth of the music is phenomenal. Just listen to how tight the horns are on "Camarillo Brillo" or how much Tom Fowler locks in a mean bass line for "Dirty Love" or "Fifty-Fifty." Frank lets out mean guitar solos on "I'm the Slime" and "Zomby Woof." Tight from beginning to end. A good starting point for those new to Zappa, and of course a great companion piece for "Apostrophe."Free Music Review: I'm riding a small tiny horse...his name is Very Little...

This is an amazing album. The musicianship is top notch, the lyrics are hysterical, and Frank rocks hard on guitar. There really isn't much more you can ask for from a rock album. Every track is memorable, and for introductory purposes this can't be beat.
Plus it's got one of my favorites, "Camarillo Brillo", on it. That one doesn't pop up too much.
Every track is awesome, it's dirty, fun, and rocking. Highly recommended.

I am not sure I am sophisticated enough musically to fully appreciate what Zappa accomplished in his lifetime, but I know what I like, and Overnite Sensation is something I adore.
To the degree that it pleases the ears, Overnite Sensation also tickles the funny bone.
Some say Zappa was "selling out" to commercial success with this album. I don't think so, but if he did, I came along willingly.
