Free Music Notes for Roxy & ElsewhereFree Music Review: A good place to start your Zappa collection Hit: 5 Stars
You should start your Zappa collection here because this album has all the qualities that Zappa is famous for: crazy humor, virtuosic playing, satire. Whereas other albums concentrate on one thing, overnite-sensation and apostrophe are heavy on humor, early stuff is mostly about satire and avant-garde jazz-rock and the 80's stuff is mostly about simplier songs with sex-jokes. This is one of Zappa's better albums. (also check out One size Fits all, also a great place to start)
Free Music Review: You MUST own this Zappa Album Hit: 5 Stars
What do yo mean you don't own it allready? This is a staple of the FZ diet. Vintage Zappa: Live, 1973(best band), Smokin' Rock, unbelievable Jazz/Fusion, Beautifully Recorded. What else do you need? Audience banter? Got it. Scorching solos? got it. What more can you ask for than Zappa at his peak? Center stage tickets? This is as close as you're gonna get.If you like it. Get You Can't Do That on Stage anymore Vol.2 or Live at the Filmore '71. Vinyl is nice too!
Free Music Review: if you like apostrophe and overnite sensation Hit: 5 Stars
then you'll like this. my own case was that i first listened to Ap and OS and then grabbed other albums like we're only in it for the money, hot rats, sheik yerbouti etc, but was disappointed. yeah sure these albums might have funny lyrics, guitar solos, weird music etc but still is not as musically enjoyable as the above two. but R&E is much more accessible and in the vein of Ap and OS. Likewise with one size fits all.
Free Music Review: Qunitessential Zappa Hit: 5 Stars
Since I have been listening to Zappa, my friend Richard has begged me to loan him a disc so that he can hear for himself what so captivates me. I have been hesitant, because no one disc captures the entirety of FZ's brilliance. Now I can loan him "Roxy". This disc has it all. I don't want to echo the other reviews, so, suffice it to say, I HIGHLY recommend this to anyone wanting to hear Zappa for the first time
Free Music Review: Hands down, the best Zappa album ever!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is my favorite Frank Zappa album of all time! The band, the crowd inuendos, and Franks guitar work still puts me at awe everytime I listen to this album. Roxy never gets old and very few albums that I own even come close to touching it. "Penguin in Bondage" and "Pigmy Twilite" are my two favorite tracks, but every song is a treat on this album. 5
