Free Music Review: I'd give it 4 1/2 stars if I could

We all miss Frank. His music has enlightened us with laughter, guitars, and brass. I cannot say that I am the most learned of the Zappa fans, but I love everything I own, and evry tidbit of other albums that I've heard. I own "Them or Us," "Freak Out!," and "Strictly Commercial". I personally think that this album is fantastic. I gave it 4 1/2 stars because I think that there are two pretty bad songs. The title track and "Ya Hozna" simply don't deliver the magnificence and brilliance that is Frank Zappa. My favorites are "Stevie's Spanking," "In France," "Whippin' Post (origionally written by The Allman Brothers Band)," "Truck Driver Divorce," and "Be In My Video". Zappa has given me an excellent taste in music that only two or three of the many people I know are blessed with. Long live the Zappa fans. Buy this album if you like some silliness along with real, hardcore, jazz-rock fusion, or whatever it's called.Free Music Review: CLASSIC ALBUM

Blistering guitar work: dweezil on 'stevie's spankin'; frank on 'chicken'; vai on 'spankin' and 'ya hozna'; frank on 'them or us','footwear', 'post', divorce. Frank is awesome on this album folks.

Free Music Review: Eclecticism a problem now?

Some people who dislike this CD (incomprehensible in itself, but, hey, appreciation of art is by its very nature subjective) claim that its main problem is its lack of theme or direction. Then how come most people see no problem with Läther (another masterpiece, by the way, x 3) which is also all over the map, musically? To me, diversity or "lack of theme" (unless one see musical ingenuity as a theme) is one of the strengths of this absolutely brilliant album.
If I were to choose only 5 Zappa albums to listen to, for the rest of my life, I'd be hard pressed not to include this one.
Free Music Review: Proof of Zappa's genius.

I listened to Them or Us for the first time in about 5 years and rediscovered what a work of genius this album is. Listening to Them or Us gives the impression that there are a million brilliant musical ideas out there waiting to be discovered, and Zappa has claimed a disturbing number of them for his own. The diversity of moods and landscapes in this album, as well as Zappa's incomparable humor, will merit relistenings for many years.Free Music Review: 80s Classic

Some of the best durn guitar ever played. Some people don't like being hurled from one genre to another; that's unfortunate, because Zappa' eclecticism is on full display. But pay attention to the guitar, beyond the doo wop, 80s parodies, and gutter humor lies true genius and guitar mastery. No one runs a fretboard like Zappa. When Steve Vai plays second guitar in your band, you kinda know who's in charge.
