Free Music Review: More amazing guitar solos
Hit: 5 Stars

Thank you Zappa family for putting out this amazing release. The third in a series of releases from Frank Zappa consisting entirely of guitar solos, excerpted from different live performances of Zappa's tunes. The first was 'Shut Up 'n Play Your Guitar,' which concentrated mainly on the 1979-1980 period, and the second was 'Guitar,' which covered 1981-1984. 'Trance-Fusion' focuses mainly on the years 1984 and 1988, and Frank shines so well on this cd. If you want to hear amazing guitar solos by one of the greatest, most distinctive guitar players who ever lived, then get this cd. There is just some incredible work here. Frank put together the entire sixty-two minute Trance-Fusion album himself, and this cd was mastered from stereo masters that he left. It sounds great and is full of such sublime beauty. Thank you Frank.

Free Music Review: What a GREAT Guitar recording.. sound xlent
Hit: 5 Stars

First off, I have known about this recording for years.. and anyone with an internet and a search engine already knew the set list of the songs.

Second off. Bob Stone. FREAKING GENIUS. He should, without a doubt, redo all the mixing on the whole FZ catalog. The sound is just incredible.

The songs are great, sound great... and the solo's are for those who like this kind of stuff.

Listen. If you liked FZ's release SHUT UP AND PLAY YOUR GUITAR and the subsequent GUITAR release, you will love this release, due to it being focused around the 88 band. We really get to see more of the 88 band tightness as frank stomps all around in the 'molecules'.

I highly recommend it. Sounds good.

Have Fun.

Free Music Review: any Frank 'll do
Hit: 5 Stars

I invite any new Frank recordings into my collection because Frank left us way too early. This one is certainly worth having, although I have to admit that the CD opening with a Dweezil solo is just plain distasteful. I'm listening with sheer delight to a previously unreleased version of Chunga's Revenge and then suddenly someone begins 'wanking' on the guitar. It turned my stomach. That cut in particular should've been buried, not led into as a forerunner to Dweezil's career. Frank built the empire from scratch, Dweezil had it spoon-fed to him from a Gerber jar. I hate to complain about the seemingly mishandling of the estate, but one sure indication came several years ago upon the auctioning of Frank's guitar. Oh well. The CD is great.

Free Music Review: The Zappas got it right this time
Hit: 5 Stars

After the great 'Imaginary Diseases' the Zappas hit another ball out of the field with 'Trance Fusion'. This is an album that Frank himself prepared for release, but it has been sitting in the vaults for more than 13 years. It was about time! The Zappas got it right. Comes in a jewel case (not like those digipacks that cant be replaced if broken), with a great art cover and the sound is to write home about. They gave the tapes to Bob Ludwig, who remastered among other things the Virgin Stones catalogue, and this material sound very very good. Zappa playing is in his own class, and it is nice to have more solos from the 88 tour, probably one of the tightest bands ever put together by Frank. Highly recommended.

Free Music Review: Guitar masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

Once again the Vaults at the Utility Muffin Research Kitchen have pooted forth more guitar wizardry from FZ. Let me say at the start that this disc is not for that FZ listener who wants more of those insightful, funny, socially relevant lyrics that helped catapult FZ to the shelf of music that is too true to play on the air. This disc is a solid 60+ minutes of string bending joysomeness. From the airplay friendly opener "Chunga's Revenge" to an almost poignant closer "Bavarian Sunset" the entire disc is a air guitar fiend's wet dream.

Buy it.

Listen to it.

Live it.
