Free Music Notes for Waka JawakaFree Music Review: One of his best... Hit: 5 Stars
Great music and band. Every track is awesome...all four songs are definitely worth it! Sal Marquez's trumpets are one of my favorite highlights of Waka/Jawaka. This is a cd for all music lovers, jazz lovers, Zappa lovers, and people who particularly dug The Grand Wazoo and Imaginary Diseases. Upon first listening to it it became one of my top 5 Zappa Albums (Jazz From Hell, Make A Jazz Noise Here, The Yellow Shark, You Are What You Is, One Size Fits All, and the You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore series are some of my favorites). I own over 40 of his cds and love them all, but this one quickly rose to the top of the list for me.
Free Music Review: True Instrumental/Guitar Gem!!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This is truly this Zappa freaks ideal kind of album in many ways. Theres such a main if not only emphasis on the music, not really much if any humor as I remember and no talking etc...some staples us Zappa fans have come tom expect. But this starts, middles, and ends all in a great flowing instrumentals guitar jamming thruout my favorite instrument of course,so if your into loving Franks Guitar and like to kick back for a good 40 minute jam session then this is the album for you!!Hope you enjoy!!!Bob Repple Chicago USA
Free Music Review: Pure thrill Hit: 5 Stars
Frank Zappa is unfortunately saddled with the Mr. Satire tag for so many rock music fans - that people tend to overlook his more ambitious/complex works.
This album is a treat and an important milestone in the ever-evolving tradition of rock and jazz. The playing is top order. Pity then that his contributions have been scarcely acknowledged. This deserves a place amongst the finest in the genre(alongwith Hot Rats and Grand Wazoo - simply superlative)
Free Music Review: Terrific Brass Hit: 5 Stars
This is a wonderful album with highly imaginative extended brass arrangements (and great playing, of course). In particular, check out "Big Swifty". It's also got some great recording effects, on the vocal and instrumental parts, which were somehow created by Zappa long before computers were used in recording studios. Think about buying this along with the "Grand Wazoo" and maybe "Hot Rats", too.
Free Music Review: Great but different... Hit: 5 Stars
Zappa in his "little big band" phase and it's outstanding. If you are looking for poop jokes and sexual innuendo that make up a lot of his catalog look some place else. This is just Zappa showing his under appreciated prowess for writing new and inventive pieces for rock music. This album along with 'Hot Rats' and 'The Grand Wazoo' are all in the same vein so if you liked those this album should be right up your alley.
