Free Music Notes for Zoot AlluresFree Music Review: I can see how you could HATE this album, but I love it... Hit: 5 StarsLet's face it, "Zoot Allures" is a pretty freaky record, unlike anything else Zappa has ever made. The album is dark and greasy...bubbling with stench, yet mind-bogglingly(?) beautiful. The production is decidedly low-fi, but the music is wonderful. "Black Napkins" alone is worth the price of the album, a simply lovely, sprawling instrumental featuring Frank's virtuosic guitar work. My favorite cut here is "The Torture Never Stops". This is the most descriptive song ever written by any artist in the history of history. The music is evil (pronounced EVE-ill). The baritone vocals are nothing short of sinister. It's disturbing and awe-inspiring. Other highlights include "Find Her Finer", "Wonderful Wino", "Zoot Allures" and "Wind Up Working in a Gas Station" among others. Not for everyone, but if you're sick of the norm, this one's for you.
Free Music Review: mwah... Hit: 3 StarsI find this particular album difficult to listen to because of its bad sound quality. Guitar plaing is very good and it is actually one of his most HM albums. The best tracks exist in better versions elsewhere. For completists only.
Free Music Review: Wind up workin in a gas station(I almost did) Hit: 5 StarsThis cd is classic Zappa from start to finish. Most of the songs have that twisted Zappa humor laced into them." Black Napkins"is Frank at his guitar playing best. "Ms. Pinky" and "Disco Boy" both display Frank's cool lyrics. This is my second favorite Zappa, after"Live in New York City".
Free Music Review: Buy it for Black Napkins! Hit: 4 StarsBlack Napkins is the best guitar solo ever! Buy this album just for that song, especially if you like Muffin Man, Watermelon in Easter Hay, Shut up and Play your Guitar. The rest of the album goes down easy, sort of like Apostrophe. This is the first Zappa album I ever bought, and it turned me into a lifelong Zappa fan. However, if you are new to Zappa, start with Joe' Garage. I feel sorry for the Mothers fan below who gave up with this album and never made it to Joe's Garage.
Free Music Review: BE AFRAID OF ZAPPA, HE PLAYS SCARY MUSIC VERY WELL. Hit: 4 Stars"The Torture Never Stops" is obviously the centerpiece of this album. Squirmy guitar notes drenched in pork grease puncture the graphic splatterings of ogasmic graffiti. this album is HEAVY. perhaps not as accessable as some other albums, but still very much rock-oriented. the vocal sound of Zappa on this is like that on apostrophe to an extreme low end garbage truck. complex, sweaty, sour and sticky, the humor might be lost on morons. "the universe is no place to start."
