Free Music Review: Shooting stars & super nova's

Holly came from Miami, Fla...(Walk on the wild side-LOU REED, 1973).
William "Holly" Johnson (former leader of FGTH) picked up his nickname from the songs infamous shemale character & that was
no coincidence.
Star producer Trevor Horn (ex BUGGLES) didn't choose Holly to lead his Liverpudian super project by coincidence either.
This double album-although it contains 3 or 4 mediocre songs,
has left very little to chance.
At first, the phrase Holly is singing in the beginning of both LP's: Life, goes on day after day (a tribute to Gerry & the Pacemakers' hymn Ferry Across the Mersey from 1964).
Did you know that Gerry Marsden & his band in 1963 & Frankie
G. T. H. in 1984 were the two first acts in British chart
history to have their first three singles become # 1?
Frankie's singles Relax & Two Tribes are among the Top 5
best-selling singles of the 80's in the British charts.
Did you know that Relax can be heard in two of the most
succesful movies of 1984: Body Double, starring Melanie
Griffith, in the scene where Holly / Melanie (notice the
name!) is shooting a p..n movie. Also in blockbuster Police
Academy, in the scene where Mahoney (S. Guttenberg) is
trying to park a car in full parking lot.
Relax was banned by the BBC for it's "obscene" message, not to
mention the controversial - shot in homophile esthetic, video.
Two Tribes stayed 9 weeks in the top of the British charts and
its anti-war message was accompanied by a hilarious GODLEY &
CREME video, featuring two Reagan (US President)& Cernenko
(Secretary of the S.U.) lookalikes fighting in a kind of Rocky
box game.
Frankie's third consecutive # 1 in the UK was Power of Love, a superb hymn to the Almighty, a true classic radio ballad in my
country.
The group has always shown a strenght in song covers.
In this LP the best cover version is Burt Bacharach / Hal
David's Do you know the way to San Jose, originally recorded
by Dionne Warwick in 1968. Holly sings in a Sinatra mood this
gentle bossa nova, one of my Top 10 favorite covers of all
times.
Apart from Trevor Horn's magic touch there is another strong
presence in this album: ZTT's Label mates J. J. Jeczalik
& Anne Dudley (ART OF NOISE).
Though it isn't totally clear how much the other band members contributed to Frankie's LP's (it's been said that they
acted as straw men & that session musicians provided all
the studio material) the band is recorded in contemporary
music history as the most succesful act in Europe for the year 1984.
