Free Music Notes for In Season: The Frankie Valli & 4 Seasons Anthology

Free Music Review: A Great Compilation Album!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been a fan of Frankie Valli for many years and I was fortunate enough to have seen him perform at the Westbury Music Fair in Long Island, NY.

I was looking for a compilation album by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons to replace a different album that I had on vinyl. This one was a great replacement! The song content and sound are great.

The booklet that comes with this album contains extensive liner notes and some information about each song such as chart position and the date when each song was on the chart. It also lists the group members through the years and it also includes several pictures of the group.

The only negative comment that I have to say about this album is that there are two songs that weren't included on this album, which I thought should have been. They were "Native New Yorker" and their version of "You Send Me". I thought that they were both very good songs that Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons recorded. I thought that this would have been an even more complete album if these songs were included, but this was not enough to reduce my rating or opinion of this album. I still highly recommend this album!

Free Music Review: Aren't We Glad THis Group Came Along!
Hit: 5 Stars

There are already a lot of reviews listed here going back over the past 6 years. My interest was rekindled in Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons upon buying the "Jersey Boys" cd. Well, that is a terrific show and well-produced cd with an outstanding cast. I decided that I wanted to listen to the original sound, and what a sound it is. In the first place, there is Frankie Valli, and what can be said of him that hasn't been said already? He literally could make anything sound fabulous.Growing up in the 60's I was too young to appreciate his larger than life talent. The entire group is incredible and nobody is going to deny the genius of Bob Guadio and Bob Crewe, add the unmistakeable musicanship of Tommy DeVito, Nick Massi and Joe Long.

What really impressed me was the different styles of music they experimented with that really come out on these cd's. The group tried everything, and succeeded well at it. Frankie Valli is still performing, and we are all very fortunate for that!

Free Music Review: Super anthology
Hit: 5 Stars

Condenses the 1988 Rhino Anthology from 3 discs to 2 discs by dropping four tracks ("Lucky Ladybug", "New Mexican Rose", "Alone", "Saturday's Father") and adding one ("Fallen Angel", a 1970s Frankie Valli solo track). "Alone" is missed, but "Saturday's Father" is available on the new (and highly recommended "Off Seasons" compilation). Otherwise the sound is perhaps slightly better, although the older set is pretty good, so if you have the older anthology you may elect to pass on this new one. For the unitiated, though, this set establishes the Seasons' place as a great band and not just an early 60s doo-wop phenomenon.

Free Music Review: Great Set List, Great Sound, Great Packaging! What Else Is There?
Hit: 5 Stars

Set list is perfect. No useless bonus cuts that I won't listen to. All tracks are in perfect chronological order.

Great Sound. Volume and mixing is perfect. I even put this on a Wave Editor and the volume is near 0db with terrific dynamic range.

Great Packaging, with a nice booklet with photos, a detailed set list with dates and original stock numbers, and nice information about the group.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Four Seasons, but if you want to buy a really good sounding CD set of their stuff with a great set list and packaging, this one is for you.

Free Music Review: New Jersey's best band of all time (with apologies to Bruce)
Hit: 5 Stars

The Four Seasons' masterworks have long cried out for a digital scrubbing. With this release, their fans finally have it. What Rhino's marketers failed to note on this compilation's external packaging (but should have) is that the release represents the first-ever digital remastering of Four Seasons songs. It's some of the highest quality remastering I've ever heard, these songs sounding fresher, richer, crisper than I previously thought possible. Run, don't walk, to add this to your personal collection; no library of great American twentieth-century music is complete without it.
