Free Music Review: Big Seers Do Scry.........
Hit: 5 Stars

LETTERS...WE GET LETTERS...
I tell ya people, when you're a famous Seer like I am, sometimes you have to take a few hits along the way (as opposed to discussing the hits as I am here). Wanda Lovecraft from Fran's Beauty Parlor in Bayonne writes: "When you gonna do a review of the Four Seasons? My brother is a first cousin twice removed and a generation away from Frankie. Get with it Metamorpho, or I'll use my fake nails on you"! Then, if that wasn't enough to turn my blood cold, I received another from Big Bill who works for Sam's Welding and Chop Shop, outside of Cleveland. "My buddies and I listen to the oldies all day. They're not happy you're not reviewing our music. Take the hint"! Then Lao Ze wrote from China and said my reviews were lousy (!). I suppose this only proves that my selfless goal of saving the world is not so easy. Anyway......

I actually did write a review of this selection many half-moons ago. I posted it and then it disappeared altogether. It is floating out there on the internet somewhere. The last I heard was that it could be in the Ukraine and a Russian woman is using it to keep her kids in line. Then I heard that a Cat Hospital in Brazil used it for a kitty litter liner. But, popular belief is that Oprah got it and it was implemental in her retirement. I hope not. All I need are more letters.

Anyway, again, your Metamorpho donned his wayfarers, combed his hair into a ducktail, and made his way (with laptop in tow) to Tony's Pizzaria in Newark, NJ. I had to in order to write this. Ambiance, as you know, is very essential to doing justice to a review.

I will state here and now that, if your pop collection means anything to you, and you want the really "good stuff" throughout the decades, then this is definitely for you. Ahhhh... what a success these guys were. And, it's still a pleasure to hear this even today. They somehow, despite writing about the trials and conditions of adolescent love, managed to make each tune a joy somehow. And, mind you, they came out at a time whereby harmonies were king, but moved doo-wop upwards on the evolutionary scale of American music. Take note, when the British Invasion hit and American groups were falling left and right, these guys continued, hit after hit. Why? Well I feel it was that the band sound contributed to the effect. The lush harmonies, the backbeat, and the fact that the song writing and groove it produced was exemplary for the times. And timing is EVERYTHING when it comes to the American, a go-go popular scene is concerned. Of course, everything has it's day. But, music of qualtiy lasts, even if it's at a time whereby half of the people on earth weren't even born yet. Thank God Metamorpho is here to inform all.

Ahh... it's 1962 or something and all of a sudden "Sherry" hits the airwaves. How green was my valli at this point? But, good grief, that falsetto is to die for. Even today, it's one of the 7th wonders of the modern day world. (I am 8th, but who's counting?). I mean, who can ever debate today that they don't secretly feel a condsiderable charge when on "Big Girl's Don't Cry" Frankie goes the extra mile with "don't cry-yi-yi". It's easy to see the other Seasons may have been the heart of this group, but Frankie was always the soul. Also the personality.

The topics were relevant for the teen-age audience that tuned in at the time. The motifs of: I'm not good enough for you (or you for me) but we love each other anyway; my heart aches and I want you back (Ronnie); don't leave, we have something valuable here (Save it For Me, Let's Hang On); pride (Walk Like a Man, Big Man in Town) and I could go on and on about how pleasurable teen angst was back then. The Four Seasons had their hand on the pulse of young America. Bob Gaudio, their main songwriter, was also an essential element for the success of this group.

The Four Seasons were. perhaps, one of the most successful groups of the 60's and their legacy will live on in the annuls of popular music. Distinctive, harmonic, falsetto filled, they were, and remain, an icon of popular music. There's not a lot of music out there that gives you real joy. This one does and does not disappoint. Get it. I guarantee a smile will cross your face.

Now, I hope that I won't get any more letters from the above fans. However, I am sure that there will be other disaffected fans who will write. I tell ya people, being all things to all people is a constant uphill battle. Good thing I came with mountain climbing boots!

Working my review back to you -- Metamorpho ;)
