Free Music Notes for Very Best of Frankie Valli and the Four SeasonsFree Music Review: It is what you expect Hit: 5 Stars
This album certainly must be considered four or five stars. It is exactly what you expect in a "very best": 20 songs, including six #1s and almost every one at least a top-ten hit. The songs I wanted were right there.
The book is a nice history of the band, written in a positive style, naturally. For you "Jersey Boys" watchers, the departure of Tommy merits only a single sentence, with none of the financial challenges mentioned. Inclusion of the lyrics might have been a nice touch, but you know almost all of them anyway, don't you?
The only area somewhat lacking is the quality of the sound. We must remind ourselves that the original 1960s recordings can only be pushed so far. Thus, they sound a little thin by modern standards of depth and richness.
My particular CD had a few rough spots and drop-offs when run on a simple CD player. Fortunately, after ripping the tunes to my PC, they sounded fine. Whew.
Free Music Review: Great selection of songs with decent mastering Hit: 5 Stars
This CD really does capture the best songs of Frankie Valli and his Four Seasons, spanning the very successful and double decade career of this wonderful singer. Almost all his big hits are here like Sherry, Can't Take my Eyes off you, and Grease. Sound quality for some songs are very well done and remastered perfectly like December 1963 or Grease, but other songs are kind of slightly harsh sounding, only slightly, like Can't Take my Eyes off you or Sherry, mainly his older songs have this harsher sound. Like its nothing too bad, not like the scratchy sound of old records on an old record player, just kind of faded sounding. But really, if you are a fan of Valli and just love his music and can deal with a few minor sound issues that most people who aren't musically picky enough to notice this minor mastering problem will love this and if you are a casual fan of this music or Frankie, this is probably the only CD you will need of him.
Free Music Review: Excellent trip down memory lane Hit: 5 Stars
My mother approached me after seeing Frankie Valli on TV and asked, "Can I find him?" I was pretty sure yes, I could. I sampled all the songs and although I didn't remember the songs by their name it was a fine compilation of songs I had forgotten about.
Now the mother is happy. When the mother is happy the house is happy. She also like the Eagles "Long Run" and Pink Floyd's "Money". We did make her one of us. Frankie was slightly ahead of my time so the mother does know what she likes. Yeah, she likes the Beatles and Drivin' n Cryin "Straight to Hell"
Chorus:
Cause I'm going straight to hell
Just like my momma said
I'm going straight to hell
I'm going straight to hell
Just like my momma said
I'm going straight to hell
Mother's can be funny that way. [...]
Free Music Review: Solid 20 Track Overview Hit: 5 Stars
All of the Four Seasons Top 10 hits, as well as Frankie Valli's solo Top 10's are included on this quick and easy to digest sampler. Rhino's 1988 1 disc Anthology digs deeper in to the Four Seasons catalog by including 25 songs and only one Valli solo, but by focusing on their big hits this makes for a tight and more useful compilation. The liner notes are 2003 up-to-date with photos and Billboard chart info for each song. The group was inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. This is the best place to start your Frankie Valli and Four Season collection.
Free Music Review: Excellent CD Hit: 5 Stars
I purchased this CD after returning from a Las Vegas trip and a viewing of the Jersey Boys musical. I have always enjoyed the music of this group since I was a young teenager back in the 60's. Basically this CD contains everything I ever enjoyed listening to. The sound is excellent on all tracks. If one were to purchase another CD of this group with more songs, those songs would likely be ones rarely heard by those who listened to the radio back in the day and may most likely be mediocre filler. This CD has all one would want.
