Free Music Notes for Romancing the 60'sFree Music Review: A Rock N Roll Icon Returns! Hit: 3 Stars
With the enormous success of Jersey Boys on Broadway, it's no surprise that Frankie Valli was going to head back to the recording studio along with long time associate Bob Gaudio. If you expect the hard driving harmony sound of the Four Seasons, then you might be a tad disappointed with this latest effort from the 70 year old Valli. "Romancing The Sixties", finds Valli in fine vocal form, but this cd has a totally mellow feel from start to finish. I find nothing wrong with hearing classic tunes Like "Sunny", "On Broadway", "Any Day Now", "What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted", etc, but the truth of the matter is, Valli's prior solo work packs a hell of alot more punch. After listening to this cd a few times, the listener comes away with the feeling that the originals are superior in almost every case. I do not consider this a spectacular effort by any means, and would have preferred some newly written material. I have always been a great fan of Frankie Valli, and I would love to rate this five stars, but if I have to appraise this effort honestly it is average at best.
Free Music Review: Dissappointing Hit: 3 Stars
Great song choices. Frankie still has a good voice. But there is NO pizzaz. So much promise - very little delivery.
Free Music Review: Frankie Valli Fan Hit: 2 Stars
I've been a Four Seasons fan since the 60's. Went to Ft. Lauderdale to hear them in the 70's and loved it. I've bored my children silly with Four Seasons music all their lives. I read all the reviews before I purchased this CD. I thought that the negative reviews couldn't be right but now I can understand why some folks could be negative. The first time I heard this CD I thought I had wasted my money but I thought I've spent my money I'll have to listen again. So I listened to the CD again. Now I know what bothers me about this CD, at times Frankie's voice sounds like an old man. That makes me sad. The CD is ok but that's all. If I could go back to making the choice to purchase this CD, I probably wouldn't buy this one but one of his other CD's.
Free Music Review: Time to retire Hit: 2 Stars
I love Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and I love Frankie's earlier solo work. His voice is still remarkable and smile inducing, but his performance on this disc is lifeless, labored, and depressing. I'm not a professional musician, but this could have been so much better. Only the hard core "never do wrong" fans will truly appreciate this release.
Free Music Review: Not the best of Frankie Valli Hit: 2 Stars
I wasn't very impressed with this release of Frankie Valli. He has taken the zip out of his music. When compared with other collections of his lifetime body of work, the album is rather bland and disappointing.
