Free Music Review: Some of the notes will make the hair on your neck stand up.
Hit: 5 Stars

I love opera. I've loved Montserrat for a while. She has always have a magnificent way of floating up to the very high notes--a way that never sounds screechy or straining--just a beautiful, gentle floating that gives me goose bumps. When I first heard this album, I thought "Freddie is no match for her." But as I listened to it more and more, I grew to love their sound together, especially on the unbelievably beautiful "Guide Me Home" and "How can I go on?" Both masterpieces of music. "Ensueno" is haunting and Freddie's baritone is a treat, "The Golden boy" is an amazing mix of music with its soulful choir sound in the middle, and "Barcelona" is an incredibly powerful piece of music. I love Queen's music, too, (I was listening to Bohemian Rhapsody before I was in kindergarden--when it came out, actually, so you know how old I am!) I'll not all that thrilled with Freddie's other solo work--with the exception of the Barcelona album. What an achievement for him! If you like opera or Freddie at all, you should have this. And if you like both, like me, you'll be in heaven.

Free Music Review: Oh, what a loss in Mr. Mercury....
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm an opera fan and Ms. Caballe has been a favorite for years. She's a bit out of place here on a piece or two for a bit, but I attribute that more to the music than her voice, which is still amazing. This is, after all, not Verdi, but Mercury...

Then, on other pieces, it's Mr. Mercury who is trying to keep up with Monserrat -- a nice twist. However, I must say that he does a quite good job at holding his own against today's premier soprano.

Anyway, blah... It's a GOOD album if you like opera and are not too stuck up with your own self-image, or if you like Queen/Mercury. Hey, I dug it a lot!!!!! I wish we had more music like this these days.

Speaking of incredible music... where in the HECK has Stevie Wonder been the last If Ray Charles can sing into his 80's and Freddy Mercury can put out until he died of AIDS, I think Stevie can bless us with a *LITTLE BIT* of his genius - don't you think????

Hrm.....

Free Music Review: The only complaint is that the album is to short
Hit: 5 Stars

There is probably more of the powerful famed Queen harmonies in this album then on any of queens albums, and that says a lot. Im not a very big fan of opera by any means, but the way these songs are put togeather makes me appriciate it more. I especialy like 'Barcelona', and 'Oveture picante' both are in my queen top 10 and 'Guide me home' and 'The golden boy' are in my top 20 queen.

The only downfall is he (freddie) should have added 2 or 3 songs to make a full length album, as you are left starving for more at the end. I don't think, however, that I would be satisfied if their were 50 songs on the album that were as good as the 8 on it, you just can't get enough.

Freddie did have several out takes that he could have included i.e 'Idea' 'When this old tired body wants to sing' 'exercize in free love' 'The duet' 'It's so you' and 'I can't dance/ Keep smiling'.

One other drawback is that the song 'Guide Me Home' should be longer. Its such an awsome song but its too short.

Free Music Review: Always Liked Freddie
Hit: 5 Stars

Perhaps I am weird but I always liked Freddie Mercury and I always liked opera. Two opposing styles you say? Why not as they remain happily tucked in my person to this day. This is how I happened to get both my loves in one cd. I was mindlessly romping through YouTube one day listening to old favorites which happened to include Queen. Somewhere in there I tripped across Barcelona and I was hooked. Something about the sweeping music and the delightful play of Freddie's unusual voice with Monsterat's beautiful soprano was so uplifting. If you enjoy both these musical expressions, opera and the grit of Mercury's iconic voice, then this cd is worth the purchase. Barcelona is such fun but the other selections are rich, filled with beauty and key changes to give you goose bumps! I am such a devoted fan of this cd that I take it with me on my drive to work. It makes the commute less boring and I arrive at work humming.

Free Music Review: UN DUETO GRANDIOSAMENTE BELLO
Hit: 5 Stars
