Free Music Notes for Free at Last

Free Music Review: The skills are tight.
Hit: 5 Stars

Free is still toting major skills that make him unique and different from the average rapper. This CD is really good. I just hope it doesn't take long for the next one to come out since we waited so long for this one. I was also hoping that the song FREEWAY, WHERE YOU BEEN would be on here. Nevertheless, beyond listening to slamming beats, with Free you can listen to the lyrics and actually hear plenty of meaning and substance in every line. Free is my favorite "new" rapper along with Young Jeezy and Lil' Wayne.

Freeway's second album is as good, if not better than his debut. The CD is skip-free with one good track after another. Not only is Freeway's flow unique and full of energy, but the beats are full of soul. When he is rapping, you know it's the truth because he's rapping from the heart. It would be hard to pick a top 5 because they're all good tracks. This is a great addition to any hip-hop collection.

Free Music Review: As Good as a Sophomore Album can get!
Hit: 4 Stars

BOTTOM LINE:

Freeway came back with tight soulful samples and great energy in his flow and delivery. I call him the Ghostface of RocaFella Records, LOL. This album WILL grow on you. I can listen to it str8 thru from #1-14. The only down part: The nickname 'Freezer'...... nah dawg.

Free Music Review: Classic?
Hit: 5 Stars

I didn't know much about Freeway getting into this album, so this was a big surprise to me. Honestly, I just saw the video for "Lights Get Low" and thought it was kind of catchy and fun, but nothing great. It got me curious about the rest of the album, though, and after checking it out I was surprised at how solid it was. Turns out "Lights Get Low" is a somewhat out of out of place fun track on an album that is otherwise pretty serious, ambitious and successful. More than anything this album reminds me of my favorite Ghostface tracks, but if I had to compare it to one particular album I'd say it gives me the feeling of listening to Jay-Z's Blueprint. Every beat is dynamic and fleshed out, every hook is memorable and there's not a single track on here that's worth skipping over. Seems like no one's really going as far as calling this a classic, but what the hell, right now it's classic in my book.

Free Music Review: Freeway - Free At Last
Hit: 3 Stars

After a four year hiatus Freeway dropped his sophomore album "Free At Last" (2007) a fourteen track release which featured guest appearances from Marsha Ambrosius, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, Scarface, Busta Rhymes, Jadakiss, Dre & Rick Ross. Freeway rhymes about his life, struggles and career on the album's opener "This Can't Be Real" Feat. Marsha Ambrosius. Freeway lets it be known he is back on "It's Over" a fast paced track which quickly becomes monotonous. "Still Got Love" falters as well, then Freeway teams up with Jay-Z for "Roc-A-Fella Billionaires" a boring track which has both MC's rhyming about getting paid, while "When They Remember" is laced with a painful Gladys Knight sample. "Take It To The Top" is a laidback track & potential commercial single which features a guest appearance from 50 Cent who laces the track with a decent chorus, while Freeway talks to the ladies."Spit That ****" is another subpar track. Freeway slows things down on the Chad Hamilton produced "Reppin The Streets", on a head nodder. My favourite track on this release is "Baby Don't Do It", a collaboration between Freeway & Rap veteran Scarface, which samples Willie Hutch's "Overture of Foxy Brown". Busta Rhymes & Jadakiss drop in for the Doc Cannon produced "Walk Wit Me" in a star powered track which never really gets off the ground. Cool & Dre provide some weak production for "Lights Get Low", with Dre rhyming as well & Rick ross making an additional guest appearance. Free closes the album off with "I Cry" (samples Millie Jackson), reflecting on the hardships he has faced. I found "Free At Last" to be lacking at times whether it was production or Freeway not providing substantial lyrics, and while he has one of the most distinct flows in the Rap game, feel he could be putting it to better use. The end result is an an average album.
