Free Music Notes for French Kiss: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

Free Music Review: Someone Exactly like you...
Hit: 5 Stars

I was walking in downtown Perth, Australia when I heard Van Morrison's tune played on this little cd shop next to a movie theater.

I was looking for this tune before from another Meg Ryan movie called "A Prelude To A Kiss" and it just grabbed me right there. Next Louis Armstrong sang beautifully, later we got The Beautiful South with "Dream A Little Dream" in English version (Australian version has this, compared to the US edition). To top it off, the cd included a free ticket to watch the movie for two!! Since my friends were busy taking night classes, I decided to enjoy the movie myself.

I was broken hearted since I flew all the way to Perth to meet the girl of my dream but she left me for somebody else. I walked alone in the evenings to do some window shopping while nursing my foolish heart.

Years later, I still occasionally pick up the cd and it still sounds fantastic. I'll never forget how this cd warmed me on the those cold days in August and how Van the Man became my only friend. I still think about her and the days I spent to dream a little dream of love.

Enjoy this beautiful companion and get ready for a French Kiss!

Free Music Review: Music for the Movie in My Head
Hit: 5 Stars

I never saw the movie--my best friend, a major movie-holic, lent me the CD, saying she thought I'd like it. Was she right! I must've listened to it 100 times before I finally gave it back to her and now it's on my wish list (Clio, are you reading this?). If nobody gives it to me for Xmas, I'll buy it myself. It is just great movie music that evokes so many feelings, and you never get tired of listening to it. It would be hard to pick a favorite track, but I love "Someone Like You" (my previous opinion of Van Morrison was, "wow, what a troll," but now I have to say if a guy who looked like that wrote a song like that about me, I'd fall in love with him anyway); "Les Yeux Ouverts" (nice, relaxed French groove); "I Want You" (I could fall in love to this one too); "La Mer" (surprisingly, Kevin Klein can carry a tune, and the arrangement and the song suit his voice very well, making the thing a nice little package); and "I Love Paris" (kicky and fun). Jeez, that's just about the whole CD! I recommend this to anybody. It's just good music with a nice French feeling to it.

Free Music Review: Utterly Charming and Endlessly Appealing
Hit: 5 Stars

This is easily my go-to soundtrack, it's lifted me out of many a crappy mood and I've listened to it endlessly over the years. It features a variety of songs, classic and contemporary, that are evocative of France and each one is special.

On the classic side you have Ella Fiztgerald and her lovely voice on "I love Paris". There's Louis Armstrong, his rendition of La Vie En Rose is second only to his "Wonderful World" for simple, easy elegance, and the amazing Charles Trenant (who also wrote La Mer) gives us His "Verlain."

On the contemporary side there's Van Morrison, the under-appreciated (in America anyway) Zuchero, and Kevin Kline with his theater background in the Pirates of Penzance and other musicals steps up the plate again with a charming and sexy version of La Mer.

There's a couple lovely instrumentals from the always reliable James Newton Howard. All in all, this soundtrack is like a transport machine, taking you along to a warm afternoon's stroll along the Seine or to a picnic in a vineyard in the south of France. Another time, another place.

Free Music Review: Stands alone as a great album
Hit: 5 Stars

You know when you see a good movie and want to keep the memories? So you buy the soundtrack. Then you find that your favorite song is not on the track or the record is an instrumental that keeps playing variations on the same theme over and over. Or it really is a sound track and everyone is talking.

Well you are in for a surprise. The music you wanted is on this soundtrack. It is consistently French or has that feel. And it is not the same theme over and over. Even if you haven't seen the movie (which is impossible), this is a good collection to listen too. Unfortunately for me I do not speak French so I will have to settle for the sound. If anyone know what they are saying on "Les Yeux Ouverts - Beautiful South" I would be interested? I know this one, "Via Con Me - Paolo Conte" but not what they may have changed. I am amazed even Kevin Kline sounds good.

Free Music Review: Great Dinner Music
Hit: 5 Stars

I am currently looking for a CD that rivals this one for great dinner music. Since I've had this CD for several years it is getting scratched from so much loving use when we entertain. I like it because it contains slow and upbeat songs and has a variety of artists...some well known oldies but goodies such as Louis Armstrong, Van Morrison, Ella Ftizgerald and the Beautiful South. I love it because it alternates between instrumental and sung which is great for dining because at times you need the voice to fill in the voids and at other times you only want the instruments. It never gets too loud that you need to turn it down or too low...no adjustment is necessary other than starting the CD again once it has stopped; hence the search for another CD along these lines of "lightweight pop". You can only play a great CD so many times before the guests start to look at you funny! I've had guests recognize the CD and tell me it is their favourite too! It brings to mind the movie and that is a conversation piece in itself!
