Free Music Review: The album Mayhem SHOULD have made

If you're like me and have never been particularly impressed with anything Mayhem has done since "De Mysteriis..." and have always wished they would return to the rawer guitar sound of those great first couple of albums, THIS is the album for you.
Frost are UK Black Metal group that is a sideline for Anaal Nathrakh member Michael Kenney (aka Irrumator / Migg). Just like in Nathrakh, Kenney plays all the instruments, while additional Frost members The Fog and The Shid handle vocals only.
This is their second album, and it does have slightly more production on it than their superb debut album "Cursed Again". So when I first heard it, it didn't feel quite as raw and I felt a little disappointed. But listening to it again after about a year I have totally changed my mind and now wonder why I couldn't appreciate it properly sooner. Compared to the latest Mayhem album where Attila finally returned (which I agree is a HUGE step in the right direction for them), I still feel that this album is far superior and much more like the kind of music I would love to hear Mayhem produce again.
So if you love that early Mayhem raw guitar sound, I would definitely recommend tracking down either of Frost's albums and giving them a listen.
