He'll exceed them. If you could put a sound to sincerity, this would be it. With great guitar work and a confident voice, each song is anchored by superb back up, especially fiddle and driving percussion that seem to bring these melodies home. Lose yourself in lyrics that tell all our stories: rural or urban, a common angst. Best cuts are easily Ol' #7, an ode to a great locomotive [...]and Riptide, pure poetry wrought out of one man's pain. You'll hear the best rendition ever of Utah Philip's Rocks, Salt and Nails and you'll clasp your hands in grateful thanks with Further On, a pure Appalachian sound that's almost hymnal. I'm a convert--I accept his truth, full of grace. Indeed, there may be a better place further on--but for now, listen to Thompson and dig being right here. It doesn't get better than this.
