Free Music Notes for Land Of The Free - Part IIFree Music Review: Kai delivers yet again!! Hit: 5 StarsEver since Kai took over the vocals for Gamma Ray in 1995, all their albums have been outstanding. It blows my mind how consistent they are in sticking to their guns over the years and yet showing no sign of slowing down or wearing out. And it's truly mind boggling how underrated this band is! Granted, their music in not very "innovative" (except maybe for Walls of Jericho, which was revolutionary for its time) and the ever present influence of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden is noticeable in many of their songs, but who cares? They deliver great and true Heavy Metal over and over again: powerful, melodic, fresh, technically impeccable, and actually mood enhancing (it never fails to boost up my spirits, even during tough times). And the fact that Kai is such a nice and down-to-earth guy (I was lucky to meet him in person) adds more value to what he does.
Anyway, as for the new album - it's all what you would expect from Gamma Ray at their best! As usual, it takes a couple of times of listening to the album to fully appreciate it. And as usual, there are a couple of songs that are not quite masterpieces, but it's not really noticeable among the overall brilliance. Don't hesitate to buy it, you won't be disappointed - the level is all the way up there with the rest of their great albums!
Free Music Review: Good album but not the best. Hit: 3 StarsI was really excited about this album and even though non of the songs were bad at all, none of them stuck out as "WOW!!!" My favorite still is Somewhere Out In Space. Note: the original photo of the album cover didn't have the parental advisory logo or that huge circle. I complained and filled out an RMA and then they put it up there. That, to me, is the biggest dissappointment. I buy the actual cd, and don't download it, because of the artwork/booklet (and not printed by a color lazerjet.) Even before I listened to it, I contacted amazon to replace it. All the stores that carry it have those logos on it so I never did actualy ship the cd out and I contacted Gammaray's official site and they said they have it without those annoying labels.
Free Music Review: Long live power metal Hit: 5 StarsKay Hansen and co. are back to bring a very fine album a nice work of guitar all along the album. A nice piece of power metal.
Free Music Review: Great album Hit: 5 StarsAnyone looking to expand there music collection needs to buy this album. If you like Helloween and bands like Hammerfall get this album. This is the first of Gamma Ray's that I have purchased and I'm definitely getting more. Killer guitar work and screaming vocals for the metal heads out there.
Free Music Review: Just because it's Gamma Ray................. Hit: 3 StarsOk, Ok, don't shoot me, but I've had this album downloaded since October or November (not sure when I got it, but it's been awhile) and I just can't get into it too much. Empress and Rain are good, but the rest hasn't gotten me. Real World is kinda cheesy (not in the good Manowar or Rhapsody way, more in the Final CountDown way, even though the two are unrelated). Other than that I thought Majestic was and still is way better. I like the darker overtones, and it seemed heavier. No World Order is still their best. Maybe I'll change my mind when I find a copy of it in a store (who knows, it's sometimes possible to find good bands in stores, sometimes) and can listen to it with the sound it deserves (I hate the way MP3s sound and that could be a reason that I don't like it) and maybe change my mind. Until then it's average at best.
