Free Music Notes for Beautiful Garbage

Free Music Review: One of the BEST CD's ever, yet unjusly ignored.
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought this CD after I saw the "Breaking Up The Girl" video on MTV. It was my first Garbage album. After I heard it, I went out and bought Version 2.0 and Garbage. I have to say that I like BG the best. It's so different and full of so many strong tracks. It's too bad this album wasn't as successful as the first two Garbage albums. I don't even think it went platinum. Here are my reviews on each track:

1. SHUT YOUR MOUTH- This song is so badass. I think the bridge is really good, too. The verses sound like Shirley is tying to be some evil rock rapper, but she really pulls it off. The guitar sounds GREAT, too.

2. ANDROGYNY- I think this song is so cool and original. It's very sexy, and I like the whole technoinsh verse that is followed by the hard rock intro to the first chorus. The lyrics are great, also. My favorite lines are in the bridge "behind closed doors and under stars....." and so on. It's too bad that this song wasn't popular enough for people to notice that No Doubt and Britney Spears wripped it off for their hits "Hey Baby" and "Boys (remix)." The choruses are so similar it obvious that they wripped off Garbage and figured they could get away with it because this song didn't have much success. Anyways, next song....

3. CAN'T CRY THESE TEARS- AMAZING song. Sounds likesothing from the 60's. It would be interesting to hear it live.

4. 'TIL THE DAY I DIE- This song is so coooooool. It's one of my favorites. Has a good beat and I like how Shirley's voice gets mixed into turntables.

5. CUP OF COFFEE- Not one of my favorites, but it goes good for someone being dumped. The thing I don't like is the ghost sounds in the beginning.

6. SILENCE IS GOLDEN- This song is a great rock song. Great lyrics. The only problem is: it doesn't have a strong ending. Just gets really sad and drifts away and looses my attention.

7. CHERRY LIPS- I don't know why this wasn't released as a US single. I love the keyboards in the beginning and the bells in the brige, along the handclaps in the chorus. This songis so fun and original. Shirley at her best.

8. BREAKING UP THE GIRL- I love the intro, but this sog can get boring after awhile. Still very great.

9. DRIVE YOU HOME- It's sooo sad and sweeet. Can't get enough of it.

10. PARADE- This song is a really strong track. The chorus is so meaningful and inspirational. I don't kno why it's called "Parade" but who cares?

11. NOBODY LOVE YOU- This is my least favorte song on this CD. Still a great song. Others say it's their favorite.

12. UNTOUCHABLE- Awsome track. It sounds like they took some bubble gum pop song by Britney and added a lot of darkness and attitude to it. One of my favorites.

13. SO LIKE A ROSE- No drums in this song. Seems like it didn't taked much time recordingand writing it, but I LOVE the ending wth Shirley singing ahhhhhh ahhhhh ahhhhhh ah e ah. It rehinds me of American Beauty with the naked girl n the rose petals. Don't ask. Great way to close such a great album.

14. BG MIXER- A really neat feature for your PC. It gives you soundbites of "Shut Your Mouth" "Androgyny" "Cherry Lips" and "Breaking Up The Girl". The sound clips are separated byeach instruent. You use these clips to make remxes of the tracks. Hours of fun!

*EXTRA- The cover art is really cool, along with the album sleeve. Just could've featured more pics of the band. Whatever.

Free Music Review: Garbage ROCKS!!!!
Hit: 5 Stars

this album is great, my fave G album.
i know some of you think version2.0 or the debut was better, but i love the new things.
i love if a band tries new things, ofcorz if they dont fail to do this. but Garbage did it great.
this album is really addictive for me!!!

here's my detailed review song by song:

Shut Your Mouth
THis is how all record should start. it's really energetic, it is really garbage!!
so it is one of my fave song on the album.
10/10

Androgyny
it was really strange for the first time, but after hearing the whole album, i think it fits in well.
the boys...girls... part was really annoying, but now i love it as well!
9/10

Cant Cry These Tears
I like the lyrics. The music is like taken from the film Grease. if it is a joke, then i like it.
if it is serious, then it is a bit strange. it si not my fave, but it is not bad at all.
9/10

Till The Day I Die
this song was growing me slowly. i hated the chorus.
after listening more to this song, i just caught its atmosphere, and now i love it a lot!
i wanna hear this on gigs, definitely!
9.5/10

Cup Of Coffee
just like everybody else, i LOVE this one! really, it is soooo catchy
the lyrics are aching (. . .)BR>10/10

Silence Is Golden
my best friend said that this song is perfect. i dont know his reasons, i just cant get through with this song.
i dont like that guitar riff in it. actually i hate it. but i do like the end of the song, from the part "wont someone listen".
7/10

CHerry Lips (Go Baby Go)
as mush i hated this one after hearing the soundclip of it, as much i love it now.
iD like to dance through the streets when i listen to it on my discman, not caring about others who'd think i went crazy, haha!
10/10

Breaking Up The Girl
i have to say this is the weakest song on the album. and unfortunately it will be the 3rd single, OMG but why???
i cant imagine how video it will be. but this song has nothing of the G-style i'm in love with.
it is nothing, really.
5/10

Drive You Home
another catchy one. it is my least fave from the 4 slow-songs. But i still adore it!
i agree with those who think it must be a single. the other 3 wouldnt make a good choice for a video, but it definitely does.
9/10

Parade
wooohoooooo!!!!! a REAL garbage song!!!!!!!
i also want this one to be a single, with a live video!
can you imagine how big we will jump shouting KABOOM!!!!
10/10

Nobody Loves YOu
this one is my favorite, in fact my all_time_favorite_garbage_song. for me, the best they've ever written!
with its really dark guitars in the back, wiht SHirl's lyrics and unbelievable voice, this is a perfect song.
enough to say. im amazed, im obsessed with this one.
100/10

Untouchable
you'll hate me for this, but i love it. OK, the chorus is not my fave part, but listen to the last verse, starts with
"you've got something to say". it is so aggressive.
9.5/10

So Like A Rose
i didnt expected to hear sth like this. it is a perfect song for ending the album.
it is so smooth, so laidback, so honest. and the end of this song is just amazing, from the part the guitar steps in.
10/10

Free Music Review: i just want to clear some things up for people
Hit: 5 Stars

ive been looking through the reviews here and i keep noticing that even the people that like this cd, think that the critics bashed this one.... Which critics? Both allmusic and rolling stone said good things about them and i will post there comments for you since both critics can say it with a bit more athority then me. Now you can check out the full reviews on [...] since i am only posting one paragraph from both reviews.

ALLMUSIC'S REVIEW
They consciously pick up elements from shoegazing, trip-hop, and indie rock - anything sonically interesting in the underground, crafting them together with skill and a keen commercial eye. On their third record, Beautiful Garbage, that's more evident than ever, from how they approximate contemporary R&B with the sultry "Androgyny," or the Minneapolis new wave bubblegum funk of "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)," or the bluesy PJ Harvey strut of "Silence Is Golden." It's all the more evident because this has a shiny, sugary, unabashedly pop coating, an element that Garbage clearly revel in, as well as should the listener. This is every bit as enticingly postmodern as their other albums, and it sounds distinctly Garbage - there are elements of My Bloody Valentine crashing up against Tricky, post-Madchester dance, jangle pop, goth stance, and classic pop - but they seem less like magpies, more themselves, which means Beautiful Garbage is a more consistent record. It's unlikely to storm the charts like their first two records, especially since there aren't standout singles like on the earlier albums, but overall the record works better, perhaps their best album.

ROLLINSTONE'S REVIEW
with Beautiful Garbage, the band goes flipping through the pop and rock lexicon, folding together sincere tributes and retro ironies like an origami master. From the Mazzy Star torpor of "So Like a Rose" to the Smashing Pumpkins surge of "Parade," from the Pretenders-with-a-turntable stomp of "Till the Day I Die" to the Portishead-like orchestral samples and echoey guitar (and title) of "Nobody Loves You," Garbage skillfully assume other styles like a band with a raging identity crisis.
Maybe there's a trauma behind the crisis. Manson has her old belligerence in the pains-of-fame rant "Shut Your Mouth," but elsewhere her chronic smirk disappears. Now it sounds like breaking up actually hurts: in the vulnerable waltz "Drive You Home," in the tinkling ballad "Cup of Coffee," even in "Can't Cry These Tears" amid mocking girl-group chimes. "Silence Is Golden" is the interior monologue of a victim of sexual abuse; Manson blurts, "Something was stolen, I have been broken," with the rawness of PJ Harvey. Trying to drop their old mask, Garbage haven't found a new face of their own yet, but they definitely know where to look.

Ok now you all have permission from the all holy music critics to go out and buy this cd. It has always been my personal favorite of theirs and in my opinon there most talented. Also i do recomend that people buy there china import one instead of this one since it has THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH which is an awesome song, its that song from the James Bond movie with the same title

Free Music Review: Third Incarnation
Hit: 5 Stars

One thing that I've found about Garbage is that they don't stick to one type of sound. They try to explore what they can do with music. The First incarnation was Garbage, the purist Rock album, taking the soul of the rock genre and illuminating it to a crystal clarity. Shirley didn't write most of the lyrics for that album. The second incarnation, Version 2.0, pulled Garbage into more of the pop genre without leaving rock. The sound changed immensely. Shirley wrote more of the lyrics and presented influences of hers. The third incarnation is beautifulgarbage. Okay, I admit that at first, I didn't like the title, but then it started to grow on me. now, let me go song by song to tell you what I think about the album:

Shut Your Mouth - Rockin' track with the orginal sense of Garbage. When I first heard this track, I loved it, and still do.

Androgyny - Popish but still has some kicking guitar. More of a version 2.0 track. This song shows the transition from 2.0 to BG

Can't Cry These Tears - OMG, when I was first listening to this album I was like, WTF? but then I actually listened to the track and loved the 50's style with a Garbage twist. I thought it was a wonderful track.

Til The Day I Die - Shirley in Falcetto. OMG, this was beautiful. Also, shows that Garbage is still in the rock genre. This is probably my favorite song off the album.

Cup of Coffee - I don't know about you all but I'm a sucker for Shirley's Ballads. This one in particular cause I can feel like I'm in the position she's in in the song. I've kinda been there.

Silence Is Golden - Major Rock song. Not to fond of it but it is a good song. IMHO.

Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go) - This song shows that this album is majorly different. This is a major pop song, but has some rockin guitar. This also shows the versitility of the band.

Breaking Up The Girl - More versitility. Not sure what type of music this song is. Sounds really 80's like to me. which I think is really cool. I've heard this is going to be the theme for Daria The Movie, which would be even cooler. It's an awesome song.

Drive You Home - Okay, this is a ballad I'm not too fond of. It's not bad but it's frequently skipped over, however, on all of G's albums I have at least one song like that. It kinda reminds me of Medication is some strange reason.

Parade - This song I call an epic song. It's a very thick song and fun. It's fast but it's slow all at the same time. I can at least say that it's one of my favorites. expecially when driving. Definate driving song.

Nobody Loves You - In the spirit of Afterglow, this song reminds me of a James Bond movie theme song. I'm not sure why, it just does. That probably why I like the song.

Untouchable - MIDI at it's best. I swear this song has a major MIDI sound. The first time you hear it you know that it was all done on synths. However, don't let the major MIDI fool you. This is a cool song.

So Like A Rose - What is it about the last songs on all of the albums being sooooo good? This is kinda a sad song but it's also very pretty with shirley's voice. SLAR and YLSF have to me my favorite songs along with MLB.

That's it from me. If you want to chat about this with me, send me an email.

Free Music Review: BeautilfulGarbage = BeautifulCD
Hit: 5 Stars

Garbage is one of those rare bands that defy musical genres, mixing and blending styles and sounds in truly unique ways. And BeautifulGarbage, released in October 2001, is no exception. If anything, the band has reached even further and stretched themselves into an even more versatile band.

How can this be possible? The members of Garbage have, both individually and collectively: defined the grunge scene (producing profound releases from artists like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Sonic Youth, L7, and countless others), created killer remixes for A-list bands ranging from Korn to Limp Bizkit to Nine Inch Nails to U2 (just to name a few), made bold fashion statements (appearing on more than 50 magazine covers), and even pulled off the theme for a James Bond flick.

Beautiful Garbage does more than just pick up where Version 2.0 (the band's 1998 release) left off. It's different, but somehow the same.

One of the great things about Garbage's sound is the textures and sounds you can hear. There's a lot of depth in there. Put on your headphones and listen closely. Set your CD player on repeat. With every listen, you're going to hear something new. Some intricate little sound that, on its own may not mean very much, but woven carefully into the rest of the song it adds more depth and feeling to the music. Some could argue that with Version 2.0, Garbage layered too many sounds into the mix (an opinion I don't share). BeautifulGarbage, on the surface, does make use of fewer layered sounds and textures (listen to the album's first single Androgyny, to see what I mean). But if you listen closely, it's in there. Some really beautiful and intricate sounds.

Aside from new ways to use layered sounds and textures, Garbage has stretched into new directions. Previous albums explored rock, alternative, and techno. BeautifulGarbage has a certain pop vibe, along with a dash of 80's synth-pop - Cherry Lips (Go, Baby, Go) has a great retro feel, even though it's a very modern song. There's even a little 60's doo-wop sound in there - Can't Cry These Tears reminds me of something you'd hear an early 60's girl-group singing.

Garbage has always had interesting lyrics. Often dark and moody, the band has a reputation for being a little twisted in this department. They don't disappoint, offering songs about gender-bending, surviving abuse, obsessing over failed relationships, and other bright topics. But the album has a hopeful twist, and is definitely worth listening to.

The total package is fantastic. Garbage has added an enhanced CD element that, when you pop the disc into a Mac or Windows PC, lets you create your own custom mixes. It's a cool use of the technology, and beats most artists' attempts at putting computer/online content on a CD.

If you don't already have this CD in your shopping cart, what are you waiting for? You might even want to increase the quantity - it makes a great gift for any music lovers on your holiday list.
