Free Music Notes for Beautiful GarbageFree Music Review: my favorite out of all the Garbage albums Hit: 5 Stars
I think I'm werid or something because a lot of people hate this album and its my favorite of all of them. It almost caused the band to break up because it flopped. I don't think it should have. Yes its not as grungy as the first two albums, but its unique. The band experimented with this album and its not your typical rock album, which is why it flopped. In fact it might be too differnet from other rock albums. It has strong lyrics and Shirley's voice is amazing on this album though.
The best songs ar Shut your mouth, Cherry Lips, Untouchable, Cup of Coffee, and Silence is Golden. Shut Your Mouth is the lead song and is really edgy and catchy. Cherry Lips is bouncy and a little dirty and fun. Untouchable has a real nice beat and I love the lyrics in this song. Cup of Coffee is the ballad of this album and the best ballad ever made by Garbage. Yes it does have werid alien like sounds in it, but it actually really goes with the song. Silence is Golden is amazing. Fantastic beat, great lyrics, and the guitar in this is really cool.
Now for the other songs. Androgyny is a good song, but if listened to repeatedly will start grating on your nerves. Can't Cry these tears is a 70's 80'sish song that is alright. Its not bad but not as memorable as other songs on this album. Till the Day I die is actually a real fun song, the lyrics are good too. Breaking up the girl is like Androgyny to me its good if you don't listen to it repeatedly its good, its not as bad as Androgyny to me though. Drive you Home is a slow song and I love the melody though not as much as Cup of Coffee. The lyrics are bitter sweet and Shirley sings it so well. Parade is real good too but theres not much to say about this song, its unique. Nobody Loves You while techniquely one of my favorites I'm sure not many people will like this song. The begining and the end are the best parts of this song. So Like a Rose is the only song I will admit to not liking, its boring to me.
With that said this album isn't for everyone. but if like unique sounds and songs this is for you. Your either going to really love or really hate this album. I enjoyed this album a lot if that means anything to you.
Free Music Review: Garbage is still beautiful Hit: 5 Stars
First off, I want to say that this is definitely an album that sounds better and better each time you listen to it. There are some songs that stand out right away, like "Shut Your Mouth," "Cherry Lips" (that song just makes me want to dance), "Can't Cry These Tears," and others. I had warmed up to the rest of the songs by the second listen :). Some of the songs were so close to rap, I was very pleasantly surprised. They don't overdo it, either. The best aspect of the album is that EVERY song has a different style that puts you in a different mood. Sometimes playful, sometimes "nostalgic," the music is a most impressive display of creativity (and it sounds Good!). Also, I found myself saying to myself on many a song, "I didn't know she could sing so low," or "I didn't know she could sing so high" (like in "Cherry Lips"). Shirley Manson has shown us how well she can really sing, putting little vocal twists here and there as well. You'll never get bored since each song has a different style, and you won't get tired of listening to Shirley's voice either. I have always been a fan of Garbage, and I love their musical style. There is a huge, noticeable difference between the heavy stuff of Garbage before and the playful, eclectic stuff of the newer Garbage, so one would have to compare their albums separately. I love all their albums. Of course, I don't love all their songs, but I have at least 14 favorites (songs I can listen to over and over again forever) from their first two albums alone! That's a pretty good record for a band. I love Garbage as much as Evanescence (download their "Origin" album and their other songs outside of Fallen - they're awesome and "Anywhere" is one of the most beautiful songs in the history of music)and Liz Phair's new album. I love all kinds of music, but those bands and artist are the best! Well, there you go. Don't let the sound clips discourage you. If you can, listen to a couple of the upbeat songs in their entirety, and then decide if you want the album. Me, I got the album after being delighted by the musical differences so plainly heard in the sound clips. I don't regret it at all.
Free Music Review: A VERY Noticable Change Hit: 5 Stars
I think that, since Garbage changed their style on this album, they aren't liked as much. Personally, I still like them.1.Shut Your Mouth-This song is a great opener, it's a song that's a bit hard to describe but it's well worth listening to, just to hear this new side to Garbage. 2.Androgyny- This isn't as good as 'Shut Your Mouth' but it's a very good song. The beginning (the flute sounding instrument) was a very smart idea. 3. Can't Cry These Tears- This is a slower song, not exactly slow, but slower then the previous tracks. I personally don't really like this song, but I can manage a listen. 4. Til The Day I Die- This is like a techno song, something they might've played in a 70s disco if it had been around. I love when she goes "farewell.... farewell" 5. Cup Of Coffee-A very dark song about getting dumped. It's VERY slow, but very good and also very depressing. I know this is just me, but sometimes I'll cry. 6. Silence Is Golden- Not exactly a favorite, but in a sense it almost is a favorite? This song is a but weird, and Shirley sounds very pained. 7.Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go)- In the beginning of this song, Shirley's voice.... it sounds like a baby's. Never the less, this song is very good. 8. Breaking Up The Girl- Um, I don't really like this, and I think Parade was practically about the same topic and that song is better. 9. Drive You Home- This song is sad, it's almost empty. It's another Garbage song that you just can't describe. 10. Parade- This song is much better then Breaking Up The Girl. It's fast paced, and the chorus is very energetic as well. 11. Nobody Loves You- It reminds me of 'Sour Times (nobody Loves Me) by Portishead, and sounds a bit like it. This song has a very long intro that is quite haunting. 12. Untouchable- One of the poppier songs, but it's still very good. It has a bit of a hip hop vibe to it as well. 13. So Like A Rose- A nice ending, sad, but also very good. I'm looking forward to the new album, coming out "later this year", entitled 'Hands On A Hard Body' and has 14 tracks. You also can't help wondering what they'll sound like next
Free Music Review: Pop on Steroids Hit: 5 Stars
Garbage's third album is, without a doubt, their most underrated album to date. Released three weeks after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks it suffered from lack of promotion. Fortunately for Garbage fans, this album still delivered.
The number one complaint you will here about this album is it's departure of the musical styles of it's two predecessors - "Garbage" and "Version 2.0". However, when you compare all four of this bands albums you'll find that not one of them is very much alike; each has it's own unique sound and is capable of standing alone.
Anything negative you've heard about this album is completely false. Does it have a more "pop-friendly" sound to it? Of course it does, but Shirley Manson and Friends managed to make an album that screams "If you're going to do Pop, do it with style".
The following tracks really shine in the "Rocking the Pop" idea:
-Shut Your Mouth
-Til the Day I Die
-Silence is Golden
-Breaking Up the Girl
-Parade
-Nobody Loves You
However, "Cup of Coffee" and "So Like a Rose", though heart-wrenching, are easily two of Garbage's best songs to date.
The best song on the album? That's a matter of dispute because many fans differ on their favorite track, but one song that transcends the rest of the album is "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)". This is a song that proves Shirley Manson is capable of just about anything. This is a song that sounds like "Pop on Steroids". "Cherry Lips" is this reviewers favorite track from the album, and one of my favorite tracks from the band altogether.
You need to have this album if you are a Garbage fan (or just a fan of good music). Keep in mind, once again, that Garbage isn't known for sticking to what they're used to. All four of their albums differ in big ways, and all four are amazing. When you first give this work of art a listen, try not to think about Garbage's other three albums and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Beautiful Garbage wasn't listed in Rolling Stone's "Top 10 Albums of 2001" for nothing!
Free Music Review: Different? Yes. Bad? Hell no! Hit: 5 Stars
I have to admit, my first time listening to the album all the way through I wasn't sure what to think. But once I listened to one more time, I mean really listened to it, I loved it. Shirley and the crew are maturing in their music... No, they are not the same Garbage we knew in 1995 with the release of their debut self titled album, but they are still Garbage. A great mix of techno, punk, modern rock, garage and new wave. This album is great! Hard beats, witty and cathartic lyrics, and the instrumentals that are highly intriguing and playful. Shirley, Butch, Steve and Duke have out done themselves. Songs like "Cup of Coffee" and "So like a Rose" are beautifully ambivalent; profoundly melancholy and superbly up-lifting. "Cherry Lips (Go Baby Go!)" is the song to rock out to. A wonderfully witty song about a drag queen. The more I listen to this disc the greater an album it becomes. And that in no way is a horrid attribute. On the contrary. I keep find new and innovative things about it to love. BeautifulGarbage is a definite departure from Version 2.0, but that is no way surprising. For Version 2.0 was a departure from their first album, Garbage. To get the full effect of the band put all three albums in your stereo, discman, or which ever, and listen to them in order. Listen to them mature, and listen to them grow as people and as artists. The sheer fact that in each song on each album I can continue to find many things new and exciting is amazing. Songs that meant nothing to me in the past mean something now, or songs that meant one thing in the past now have a total different connotation. Garbage is a band that will be with us for a long time, and a band that will continue to make great music and surprise and tantalize us. I recommend trying not to find the Garbage of Version 2.0 in this album, instead find the maturing Garbage... find the people who Shirley, Butch, Steve and Duke have become. Find the person that you have become. And then there is no way you cannot enjoy this album and see how beautiful they are and you are.
