Free Music Review: wow, consider me impressed
Hit: 5 Stars

I actually hadn't intended on buying this CD, as I've never really been that big of a fan. I thought the first CD was pretty awesome, but I found the second one to be a little too electronic for my taste, and what I've heard of the third one sounds pretty awful (sorry to you mega fans).

One of my buds was playing a mix CD that apparently included a few tracks from the new album, and the songs really hooked me. I had heard the new single a few times on my local alt radio station, so I was already familiar with that one. Awesome tune, btw, even if the chorus gets a little repetitive. The tracks I heard prior to buying the album were #2,3,4,6, and 11. Yeah, I'm lazy and don't feel like typing the actual song titles out. Shirley's voice sounded familiar, but I didn't even realize it was Garbage until he told me.

So after hearing it in its entirety, I can honestly say it's probably the best CD I've picked up this year so far. I was most looking forward to hearing Beck's and QOTSA's latest offerings, but I found both of them to be rather disappointing. I'm digging all the songs, especially #2 - "Run Baby Run" - okay, I'll bite and actually type a few titles out. "Right Between the Eyes" is a wonderfully breezy tune perfect for cruising down the highway doing 90 with the top down. Okay, that description was way too wordy. "Metal Heart" is a powerful political tune imbued with the usual Garbage studio trickery, but at least it doesn't overtake the song. The only song I'm not crazy about is "Sex Is Not the Enemy," which doesn't do a lot for me musically, but I do like the message.

So, yeah, in short... take my advice pick it up. Even if you're a non-Garbage fan, you'll probably like it.

Free Music Review: Thank you Garbage for bringing back good music to my life !!
Hit: 5 Stars

How do I beginn to review this album ? Well I can start by saying I am IMPRESSED ! I had almost given up that good music could be made these days, but Garbage proved me wrong. It start with the angry and good rock song "Bad boyfriend" and only gets better from here. The song "Run baby run" is one of my faves, I listened to it 5 times in a row when I first heard it !

"Right between the eyes" is another awesome song, its a dark rock song where the guitar playing at the end takes me to another place far far away(at least my mind!) the lyrics says "People kill to build you up then the`ll stab you in the back like that" ah how I can identify with that.

A few ballads here as well the song "its all over but the crying" is just aaaah oh so beautifull !! "Metal heart" is another song where the guitarist shows he can play guitar. Only songs that arent that good compares to the rest are "Sex is not the enemy" the title is cool but the song itself isnt that good. I am not too crazy about "Boys wanna fight" either, the message is good and very true but the song itself(melody and music) wasnt like the rest of the songs.

On the entire cd u can hear the pain in the singers voice, as she just divorced her husband. Its so obvious, cause it reflects in al the songs on this album. This album is dark with deep lyrics just the way rock music should be al about.

The last song is a PERFECT way to end a (almost) perfect album.

If Garbage comes here to Scandinavia at a concert I WILL SEE THEM NO MATTER WHAT I HAVE TO DO !!

Forget about their other albums, they may be good but in my opinion this has to be one of the best albums Ive heard the past 5 years.

Free Music Review: Garbage is back with a vengeance!
Hit: 5 Stars

Granted I did find their last effort, 'Beautifulgarbage', to be a step down from the extremely high standards they left us fans with on their prior first two albums, I did enjoy it more than some. I am, however, happy to hear them abandon their 'fluffier' sound for something more dismal and angst-ridden as heard on the personal, introspective lyrics written by Manson herself and the thrashing yet melodic instruments from the other, equally important band members, Steve Marker, Duke Erikson, and Butch Vig. This being their fourth release now follows much in the same vein of what I consider to be their best endeavor to date, 'Version 2.0', only 'Bleed Like Me' relies less on electronics and focuses more on a pure rawness of drums & guitars. Shirley Manson recently had to undergo surgery on her vocal chords but she truly sounds better than ever here and the musicianship all around is very strong. After a long four year hiatus the band was close to calling it quits but I'm so glad they decided to work things out and give it another try because 'Bleed Like Me' offers the listener some really good, catchy tunes, and I hope they continue doing so for ages to come (admit it, we're in desperate need of more female fronted rockers!). As a whole it is a solid album but some songs are better than others so you'll likely find yourself hitting the repeat button on addictive tracks such as "Bad Boyfriend", which opens up with a bang and features guest drummer Dave Grohl, as well as the infectious "Why Do You Love Me?"--their best single since "Special"--, "Run Baby Run", "Metal Heart", and another classic Garbage ballad that is full of beautiful, aching melancholy, "It's All Over But The Crying".

Good stuff. At some moments you're definitely hearing a return to Shirley's vocals in v2.0. In other spots there's brief, slight influence from the likes of Gwen Stefani (who they toured with briefly) and that chick from the Ya Ya Ya's (think that's how you spell it). But the album isn't mostly homage (Pretenders, etc) and mockery as the last one felt like (honestly I'm still not sure if that one song was mocking Britney or not). But Shirley goes to new rock out places on this album. They let Butch mix the final album cut, and it shows. While the weirder electronic OCD-inspired sampling intricacies is somewhat missing and missed, the less sampled, more focused, yet thicker production and final mix are a worthy direction for the band. You certainly hear mixing technique similarities to Siamese Dream, Nevermind, and that Sonic Youth album he did. Oh yeah, and I'm glad she's red again. It's amazing what good lighting and camo pants can do on stage for a girl like her, but I did not get the white hair. But I digress. She has more presence, authority and confidence that was a bit lacking early on. Not that I had a problem with it, but I was always a bit nervous for her. I'm not anymore. She can handle it and it's very apparent now. Good for her. The guys, to their credit, have reigned her in a bit as far as the lyrics and stylistic influences. It was getting a bit too poppy and homage-ridden in Beautiful Garbage for my taste, though it's still good music and technically excellent. But the band sounded like it was moving towards becoming too much like an electro Angelfish. So all is well in Garbania again.

Free Music Review: a classic

I love this album! I see in the discussions someone said you would only like this if you are "bitter and angry"...well, that's not me...and I LOVE THIS ALBUM. Shirley Manson is amazing. Not only is she gorgeous, she is a fabulous singer, and a great, intelligent writer. Although I don't agree with all the philosophies she puts into her songs(though yes, I'm anti-war and think she articulated in "Boys Wanna Fight" what's going on really well, I don't think a "free love" revolution will solve anything on personal or political levels..."Sex is not the Enemy" is a great song music-wise though...end tangent), I think she's a great example for women in many ways. We're not all waiting for a man to come along and "make it all better." We're not all demure. Shirley's lyrics express that in a society that does not accept it. Go Shirley.

I have heard people complain that this album is more straight-up rock n'roll and less "electronic" than 2.0, but that is the hallmark of a great band. The Beatles had "Sgt. Pepper" as well as "Let it Be". Led Zeppelin did "Black Dog" as well as "Tangerine." Great bands have range.

Garbage is the only band I love that came out of the 90's. And they're still rockin' in the 2000's. Listening to this album has helped me alot through some recent times. There are some very uplifting songs, as well as some songs that are so deep, true, and sad that they make me cry. Beautifully written.

I saw Garbage in concert in Spring '05. Shirley Manson is even more jaw-droppingly captivating in person. Rock on, Garbage! And thank you for all the great music.
