Free Music Notes for Bleed Like MeFree Music Review: "And there's a sky that's changing and a bird that sings..." Hit: 5 Stars
Garbage's fourth album Bleed like me is raw, collectively authentic, and ravishing to say the least. Shirley Manson and the boys are back with a hard-rocking album that explodes with anger, lust and envy. Shirley's voice is as stunning and strong as ever, the fabulous men sure know how beat on those guitars and drums. Standout tracks include: the title track Bleed like me, Metal Heart, It's all over but the crying, Happy Home, Sex is not the Enemy, well ok every damn song is a standout! Great lyrics especially from Bleed like me which discusses some very disturbing issues, anorexia, alcoholism, cutting: "Doodle takes dad's scissors to her skin and when she does relief comes setting in." Metal Heart has so many layers, first it starts off slow and kicks in with loud guitars and strings in the chorus: "Kiss my mother on her cheeck lay my burden down, lay my burden down." It's all over but the crying is so sad and honest, it talks about Shirley's divorce from her husband Eddie: "If i could i would i'd change everything, cuz i can't forget you though you don't believe me, now i can't walk back i can't leave behind, where does it go all the light that we had?" Just a simple and gorgeous song, you can hear the sadness in her voice. This album has less production than the previous albums (less loops and sci-fi sounds) but this is still a great album from my favorite band in the world. Bleed like me will make you bleed with joy!
Free Music Review: Shirley's Got An Itch I Can Scratch and Cut Hit: 5 Stars
I purchased this album as an afterthought. I loved the debut release of this band
so much, and really thought they couldn't possibly do better.
I was right. However, Viva La Difference! This is certainly an original
work and not a knock off of the first release (unlike 'Garbage 2.0' - which
was stronger, faster, better but in a way that made you want to choke).
I was impressed at the lyrical montage from Shirley Manson, very much and
surprised at the insight and likeableness of the title track, 'Bleed Like Me'.
It's a song about self-mutilation.
I am a Generation X man, and I am surrounded by people from my generation who've
pierced themselves in really painful locations, had body tattoo work which really
hurt (at least while it was being done) and it goes without saying, a large
number of people from my generation have cut themselves for pleasure.
Self-mutilators are not sick. Some are lonely, some are sad, some are mad
at their baby-boomer parents and the death culture.
I appreciate the beauty Shirley Manson's voice graces over this topic of self-abuse.
It is really, really cool.
So, if you liked their first album, you might not like this one as much, but then
again, maybe you will like it more, after a few cuts.
Free Music Review: Review from the Synthesis Hit: 5 Stars
After a three-year hiatus and another year in the recording studio, Garbage has returned with their fourth album, Bleed Like Me. After trading in their electro/alternative rock sound for the lavishly produced pop vibe on their last album, Garbage is back to what they do best. Stylistically, Bleed Like Me is close to their first two releases, with the addition of a darker, more aggressive edge. This new facet to their sound is evident from the start of the CD as it opens with the driving, guitar-laden "Bad Boyfriend," and returns throughout the album. Even with this edgier sound, one can't dismiss the catchy pop elements on Bleed Like Me. Songs like "Run Baby Run" and "Right Between The Eyes" are reminiscent of "Special" from Version 2.0. And Shirley Manson's Chrissie Hynde-esque vocal stylings have always brought a pop flavor to the band. Despite being one of the more defining elements of their sound in the `90s, the electronic influence is now more subdued. But those who love Garbage's electro sound need not worry, as songs like "Metal Heart," "Boys Wanna Fight," and "Why Don't You Come Over" contain enough electro elements to keep them happy. Solid from beginning to end, superbly produced and full of sonic ear candy, Bleed Like Me is a much-needed relief from the neo-new wave sounds permeating the air waves.

Free Music Review: Bleed Like Me A Stellar album Hit: 5 Stars
"A stellar album" is what lead singer Shirley Manson says of Garbage's latest album "Bleed like Me", which is anything but garbage. In the mists of recording, they broke up. Thankfully Garbage soon got back together to give us, the fans, what we want...a new album! (There last album came out a whole four years ago).
In the opening track, `Bad Boyfriend', Shirley Manson says to her bad boyfriend "If you can't love me honey go on just pretend". David Grohl(drums on track 1)makes the song with his unbelievable ability to play drums. `Its all Over but the Crying','Happy Home' and the terrific title track are the three ballads which surprisingly rock and gives the album that bitter sweet effect.
`Bleed Like Me' is the best track lyrically that tells the story of Avalanche, Chrissie, Doodle, Speedie and J.T. who all have their own scars. `Metal Heart' reminds us have something form "beautifulgarbage"and is great. `Why do you Love me' is the first single and is my favourite of them all
because the loop is so rocking. A devasated Shirley lets the listener in to her broken heart by whispering "I think your sleeping with a friend of mine..."
Some people say "Bleed like Me" is Garbage's best since their self-title debut 10 years ago.
Personally, this is my favourite.
Free Music Review: Amazed Once More! Hit: 5 Stars
After experimenting with all the production trinkets at their disposal on the last album, coming up with a cacophany of unique and diverse sounds, the band has roared back in a mighty way with their fourth effort.
Shiley Manson's vocals are as good as ever, despite her vocal chord surgery, and the band returned to a more raw, yet still alternative rock sound. Ther guitars scream into the ears from all directions, and generally drown the special effects and loops that came at you with such vengeance on Version 2.0 and BeautifulGarbage. This shows their versatility; no album of theirs has ever followed the same pattern.
This is why I have always deeply admired Garbage: they do not give themselves over to the same predictability that most mainstream artists have. Each of the eleven songs on the album sound COMPLETELY different from one another, and give a perfectly balanced rhythm between the harder rock songs and the beatiful, more melancholy soft songs. The melodies to most songs are truly beautiful, especially Happy Home and It's All Over. If you play them on an acoustic guitar, you can see just how attractive the melodies really are.
I would say if you get any album this year (at least to this point), this is the one to purchase. You will not be disappointed.
