Free Music Review: One of My Favorite Bands and My Favorite Album of Theirs
Hit: 5 Stars

I just love Garbage, they have such a unique style that I can't find in other bands that makes me have to at least here one song of there's a day. I've had this particular album for about four years and I have their others too and I have to say this is my favorite even though Version 2.0 comes close. Each song has a great and unique and dark edge that I cannot find in every song on their other albums, but don't get me wrong, I love their other two albums as well. Here's a song by song review of this awesome album...
SUPERVIXEN: to be honest, i usually skipped this song at first but now it's one of my favorites. catchy dark chorus makes me love this song.
...: god, i love this song and the video, it's so dark and even though it's not even that hardcore or anything, somethin about it gives me goosebumps
ONLY HAPPY WHEN IT RAINS: ah yes, the song that made me a Garbage fan, this was my anthem for a while when i was dealing with depression
AS HEAVEN IS WIDE: i love these lyrics! i can so relate to what shirley's feeling in this song having been betrayed and it's just fabulous!
NOT MY IDEA: kinda weak compared to the first four tracks but it's still very catchy and still very good in my book
A STROKE OF LUCK: one of those songs you have to listen to a couple times to appreciate it, but it's slow dark atmosphere will leave you captivated by it's beauty
VOW: yes! my favorite song on the album, it took a while to grow on me, but the chorus just says it all, i love to sing this one loud and think of everyone that's betrayed me and my revenge :)
STUPID GIRL: one of their most popular songs and a good one, the only problem i have with it is i feel it's been overplayed, which is a shame because i still love this song :(
DOG NEW TRICKS: kinda repetitive, but i still love the words cuz i again can relate to someone who lies just to make things look more dramatic than they are, it's great
MY LOVER'S BOX: a lot of people found this one annoying but i think it's one of the best tracks instrumentally, a good one to listen to on headphones
FIX ME NOW: in my opinion, the weakest on the album, but i still like this song cuz it's catchy, so i pretty much don't have a problem with any song on this album cuz i think this is the worst and i still like it
MILK: great ballad to end with with the haunting "I'm waiting for you" message.
An awesome album that i think should be found on everyone's shelf and in CD players, cuz this trip is worth taking.

Free Music Review: The best Garbage CD
Hit: 5 Stars

Every song here could have been a hit single, no exceptions. Shirley Manson's voice is better here than on other Garbage CDs, very deep and gothic. This album is easily Garbage's darkest CD, and the most guitar heavy. Grungy guitars drive almost half the songs here, but there's plenty of FX and synth stuff present all over the album too. The best part about this band is how they cram every song so full of different sounds so every time you play it you'll be hearing a new melody or guitar fill that you never noticed before. As such, the songs have a lot of replay value and make for great headphone listening. In fact, put this one on headphones and you'll notice just how complex this music is, how there are tons of cool sounds to hear that would probably elude you otherwise.

Supervixen: Stop/start CD noises, as if your CD player is skipping, make it probably the most unique track on the album.

Queer: Spooky, seductive, one of the strongest tracks, a hit single despite the fact that nothing on the radio sounds anything like this.

Only Happy When It Rains: A tounge-in-cheek song about how dark this album is, its actually one of the happiest songs on here. Featuring cool backwards-tracked hard slamming guitars.

As Heaven Is Wide: Bitter, very synth-driven, very dark

Not My Idea: Only Manson can make a nonsense line like "Dip-dip-da-dip-da-dip-du" sound like something you'll want to sing along with.

A Stroke of Luck: Slow, dark, and cold, a song to listen to when walking around on a cold winter night. This is where the album goes from really good to amazingly good. Along with the next two songs, Stroke of Luck is the best on the album and my personal favorite.

Vow: Amazing agressive song. "I can't use what I can't abuse...and I can't stop when it comes to you." The perfect bitter revenge song.

Stupid Girl: Probably the catchiest Garbage single, and one of the best too.

Dog New Tricks: Very catchy, heavy guitars, a fairly straightforward grunge/rock song while still sounding like nothing else out there.

My Lover's Box: Probably the worst song here, but far from bad. The lyrics in the chorus annoy me: "send me an angel to love, I need to feel a little piece of heaven".

Fix Me Now: A blast with its poppy chorus, with almost a bit of a retro feel or something

Milk: A slow haunting ballad, with an amazing soft synth-type noise throughout that'll just have you wondering how they came up with it.

Free Music Review: This Garbage should be put on a pedestal
Hit: 5 Stars

Every once and awhile an album comes along that changes your musical taste and your life, and the way you see artists. I was fifteen when i first heard of Garbage. I had seen the "Queer" video once, but being the son of a minister I was rarely allowed to watch MTV. It was probably '96 before I saw the video for "Only Happy When It Rains" and that song hooked me. I liked the fast and upbeat sound, but loved the depressing words that were underneath the sugary surface.

I took my allowance down to the music store and got my first copy. (i've had to get it several times, due to over playing)
What I heard when i got home was like no music I'd ever heard.
With heavy guitar riffs and seductive singing, Garbage blew me away! As I said earlier, an album can change the way you look at music. Before I found Garbage I was listening to the likes of Wilson Philips, Mariah Carey, and (don't slaughter me people!) Yanni!!! This album let me feel my darker side, unlike the others.

With songs like "Only Happy When It Rains", and "Milk" both of which are beautiful but morbid. To the anger behind "Not My Idea" and "Stupid Girl" to the self doubt in my favorite song on the album "Stroke of Luck". This album seemed to have it all. Even dealing with the feeling of wanting to be something other than what you are, like "Fix Me Now". All of these songs hit me at once and after the first time listening to it, I actually cried. There were other people, adults none the less, that understood my angst against the world!!!

I stopped listening to it for awhile, taking it on long trips; and putting it in the cd player to sleep to. Then years later, I was really paying attention, and found my second favorite song; "My Lover's Box". That was probably '02, and it is almost always in my cd player. I'll buy an album from one of the hundreds of new rock groups out there, yet come back to this album. And now with the pending release of the groups 4th album "Bleed Like Me", I don't take it out of the cd player.

Trust me people, if you want a hard rock album, or even an industrial rock album; that shares the feelings that all humans go through; this is the one. The only one. Garbage will never go bad and definitely never spoil.

Free Music Review: I'm Riding High Upon A Deep Depression
Hit: 5 Stars

I remember the time when Alternative Rock was still supreme. Before primitive bands like Limp Bizkit bored us, and shows like TRL existed, modern rock radio was overflowing with great bands. Garbage are one of those great bands. Their s/t debut is filled with huge hits, addictive chorus hooks, great production, amazing musicianship, top-notch vocals and lyrics, and it's all oh so catchy. Songs like "Queer" and "Stupid Girl" are known by just about every Alt-Rock fan worldwide, and they're obvious favorites. Personally though, my favorite track is "Only Happy When It Rains". It completely mirrors my life (the lyrics sound like Shirley was reading some of my poetry), it's catchy, it's addictive, and I absolutely love it; it's tied with "Milk" as my favorite Garbage song. Other strong tracks are "As Heaven Is Wide", "A Stroke Of Luck", and "Vow". I think "Vow", aside from "Only Happy When It Rains", is the catchiest song here. "Milk" is just touching. It's beautiful and haunting, dark and hopeful, potent and mesmerizing. As you can tell, I'm very much obsessed with the song. All of these songs have a moody and dark tone to them, something I absolutely love (I listen to lot of Gothic music, it's one of my favorite genres). In fact, I remember reading somewhere that Garbage are like the modern day Siouxsie & The Banshees. Though I've never been a big fan of that band, I can see why that was said, as Garbage posses a moody aura. Please, don't dismiss Garbage as "just a girl band" because of your ignorance, this really is an amazing band. I really can't praise this CD enough, no filler, no bad tracks, no boring songs, it's just that damn good. I'm glad to see that at least Garbage are still holding strong and making great songs through this depressing state of music. You cannot go wrong buying this CD, I don't see a reason as to why you shouldn't own this. Now, if only their new CD would arrive sooner.......

Free Music Review: Only happy when it rains
Hit: 5 Stars

I finally saw Garbage live the first time around at First Avenue back in May. I must say that their recordings don't really do the band's music any justice nevertheless the band's albums are great examples of the fusion of rock and pop music with techno beats. I really can't pick a favorite Garbage album but I must say that of the three, I will have to say that "Garbage" doesn't have that sonic punch in the production that I hear on "Version 2.0" and "Beautiful Garbage". I consider Shirley Manson one of the best vocalists around. After seeing Garbage in concert, I will have to add that Shirley is the new Annie Lennox for the new millenium with her blonde hair. She has Annie's charisma as well as being equally talented. A lot of my favorite Garbage songs are on the band's self-titled album, particularly the singles that were highly popularized by MTV. "Only Happy When It Rains" with its catchy melodies and self-deprecating lyrics really speaks to me. I consider that song my personal anthem. The same can be said about "Stupid Girl". I just love singing along to those two songs whenever I pop in "Garbage" in my stereo. As for the slower songs, I absolutely adore "Milk". The trip hop influence is quite evident in the song. I can hear the heartache and angst in Shirley's vocals. She simply wails on this song. I used to not like "Queer" but that was because it was played too death on the radio and MTV. Now that I have been listening to this album quite a bit, I absolutely love the song. As far as the songs that were not released as singles, I think I would have to say that "Not My Idea" and "A Stroke of Luck" are my favorite non-single tracks. I also dig the drum & bass-influenced "As Heaven is Wide". Despite the muddled production on this album, "Garbage" is a modern classic although "Version 2.0" manages to surpass it artistically. As I listen to this album more and more, I continue to find myself amazed by the music. Not quite a decade old, this album still remains fresh as ever. Simply amazing.
