Free Music Notes for Garbage

Free Music Review: "I can take you out with just a flick of my wrist..."
Hit: 5 Stars

What a stunning debut from the band i know and love Garbage. I have to admit that my first album i purchased by garbage was version 2.0 (which i love), so after that i ran out and bought their debut and see how the band came about. 12 great tracks here, all worth a thousand and one listens to. This a very dark and angry album but in a fun and sarcastic way. Shirley Manson is a goddess of voice and words:"hey boy take a look at me, let me dirty up your mind, i'll strip away your hard veneer and see what i can find." from the song Queer. Another fabulous songs include only happy when it rains, not my idea, vow, milk, and of course their most popular song stupid girl (a timeless classic). The song A stroke of luck is so haunting and mysterious, i'm still a bit confused what this song is about but it is great:"You say that you'll be there to catch me or will you only try to trap me..." I like this album, very-understated than the rest of their albums. Nothing glossy or over-produced here, just very raw, emotionally-rattled songs that will make you think twice about ending a relationship with a strong-willed girl.

Free Music Review: Efficient Pop
Hit: 5 Stars

This is quite the efficent pop record. Taking it's cues largely from Curve, Garbage blended alternative rock elements with electronic flavours to create their first record. It's a simeple enough template: angsty guitars with a couple loops thrown in; it runs the gammut of popular alternative genres of the 80's & 90's, from grunge to new wave to trip hop. The lyricism tends to be on the naive/disposable side, though, with "I'm Only Happy When It Rains" being the most sappy, lending itself to that post-Cobain, "poor me" school of thought. It's the kind of track that conveniently gives it's listener a reason to dress in black and feign gloom for a few minutes. When you listen to it you can tell it was one of the first records to be aimed directly at disaffected teens who were weened on pop as kids and wanted an introspective slice of Nirvana-esque self-loathing sans all the emotional depth. "Garbage" paved the way for more alternative acts to look and sound edgy without being inaccessible or threatening(Evanescence, anyone?), and in that it does exactly what it's supposed to.

Free Music Review: Not too in your face, but not the ear candy of studio bands
Hit: 5 Stars

I was reluctent to check out this band when I first heard of them. Until I heard "Only happy when it rains"...then I had to hear the rest. Garbage is a refreshing break from the monotomy of modern day radio. Songs like Supervixon, Only happy, Not my Idea, and As Heaven is Wide have nice, driving beats that make it hard not to move your head or tap your foot, while tracks like Queer, Stupid Girl and Milk present a more relaxed, artistic focus from the band. Shirley Manson is an angel walking the earth. She is as close to perfection as most dare hope for in the music world today. She is dark and mysterious, but outgoing and passionate with her art. She portrays emotion with her voice and sexuality with her movements like no one I've ever seen before. Did you ever feel like the lead singer of a band was actually singing to *you?* You will. Forget Mariah, Britney and Christina. Don't even think about Backstreet, 98 degrees or DMX. Yeah, DMX, I can't stand them either. Garbage is fresh, real and not just another studio band. Do not pass this cd up.

Free Music Review: They were garbage till Shirley came along
Hit: 5 Stars

Garbage are a strange concoction three veteran producers one of whom produced the most significant album of the 1990s, teaming up with a then unknown scottish singer, it was strange yet it gelled and just listening to this album you can see why.

Garbages first and best album has some of the greatest and perhaps best known songs from the decade. Alot of the songs on here appeard in commercials and TV Shows, most people would probably have heard at least one song of here.

Garbage would never got anywhere with Shirley Manson whose sexy rather sinister vocals really bring out the darker edge of the music.

The song on here that really holds your attention is Stroke of Luck which really sad and rather gloomy but its a real beautiful song one of those tracks you alway want to listen to again.

I think this album is easily one of the Essentials of the 1990s, and one of the best debuts ever it's a powerfull and enthrilling listen and makes you not long after hearing it the first time want to listen all over again.

Free Music Review: POP ROCK's got a new name: GARBAGE
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, i know, if you're reading this at this time and you don't have the album yet, you have missed a lot in modern music. Anyway, i wanted to post a review on a band that i consider to be the best new thing to happen in pop in the 90s. Garbage has that it's-not-rock, it's-not-totally-pop thing that Depeche Mode has (Mode is my fav band of all time), and they achieve a great goal in their field. You know what Butch Vig did for alternative music, and you wonder: ¿Why is this guy not making music like Nirvana or Smashing Pumkpkins?. The you buy the album and it becomes clear. Garbage is a great band, headed by a smart-mega-beauty named Shirley Manson. She's the one that writes the lyrics, great lyricas about life, some movies, and lots of interesting things. The music on this first album is extraordinary, i wonder who they came up with those catchy tunes, without sounding cheesy. This is a very interesting mainstream album. By the way MILK is one of the most sad and beautiful ballads ever written.

Nuff Said.
