Free Music Notes for Garden StateFree Music Review: The best soundtrack that I can remember Hit: 5 Stars
Soundtracks are tricky because usually there is a lot of filler or the songs just don't go together stylistically. Some exceptions are "The Wedding Singer" soundtracks with nothing but 80's songs and it fits the mood of the movie. The best example is Garden State, filled with emo and moody songs from independent bands and mainstream bands. Stylistically, these songs are similar and they reflect the feel of the movie. The Shins are great on here with their 2 songs and of course, Coldplay's "Don't Panic" is an awesome song. The songs by Nick Drake and Colin Hay are also excellent and worthy of hitting "REPEAT" on your CD player. And thrown in there is Simon and Garfunkel, with a great song. I didn't care for Thievery Corporation, but hey, no soundtrack is perfect. My favorite track is by Iron and Wine called "Such Great Heights." I like this version sung by Sam Beam better than The Postal Service's version (which I like a lot!). All in all, there are a lot of quality songs on this soundtrack that were handpicked by Zach Braff. He knows good music and it shows! And as of today, July 13th, the price is only $8.88 on Amazon. Can't beat that!
Free Music Review: Excellent Compilation! Hit: 5 Stars
Movies in recent years such as "Rushmore", "The Royal Tenenbaums" and "Eternal Sunshine" have demonstrated how important a good soundtrack is to a movie.
Good music is obviously important to Zach Braff, who was the writer, director, and the executive soundtrack producer for "Garden State." He skillfully selected the perfect songs to punctuate pivotal scenes - such as his use of "The Only Living Boy in New York" (Simon & Garfunkel) during the "primal scream" scene. Or Zero 7's "The Waiting Line" during his drugged observations at a slacker friend's party. I read that he went to great lengths to get rights to these songs so that he could have them not only in the movie, but also on the soundtrack. The end result is this excellent soundtrack.
Even without the movie, the soundtrack is a worthy investment as a compilation of great mellow-but-hip music. Some have complained that Iron and Wine's version of "Such Great Heights" should have been replaced with the Postal Service original, but I think that the melancholy remake better serves the scene in the movie.
Excellent investment - buy this CD.
Free Music Review: One of the best Soundtracks out there Hit: 5 Stars
This is probably the best soundtrack that I've heard (out of ones without scores anyway). It's a very mellow, humming compilation but never the less entertaining and entrancing. It starts off with a well-known Coldplay song that can easily be compared to the beginning of the movie. From there it goes on with some great songs from The Shins (the most prominent Indie band out there), a classic Simon and Garfunkle song, sweet and romantic "Blue Eyes" from the Cary Brothers, and a soulful compisition from Remy Zero (a very underrated band). "Lebanese Blonde" adds a sweet and quirky twist to the whole album. The Iron and WIne version of "Such Great HEights" isn't as amazing as the Postal Service version, but the vocals really pull through and turn it into almost a lullaby. "Let Go" is probably the most associated song with the movie due to the commercials, and ofcourse is a perfect epitome of the story's theme. The finale is a bit abstract from the coundtrack but overall is a good conclusion. All in all, Zach Braff has been incredibally successful in creating a sensitive and soul-shattering album for all to expirience.
Free Music Review: Now we know why Darth Vader was so mad. Hit: 5 Stars
This is the soundtrack to the Star Wars movie that happened in between Episodes II and III. In it, Natalie Portman's character goes to earth, gets a head injury, and accidentally forgets that she married Darth Vader. She listens to the Shins a whole lot and hooks up with Zach Braf. Then she has a kid and this takes us right up to the beginning of Episode III, where she remembers about Vader and tells him that it's his kid. He doesn't beleive in immaculate conception so he starts getting all hyphy with the other jedi because he has anger management issues. Then he tries to take out some Wookies but gets seriously stomped for it. Meanwhile Natalie Portman starts getting frisky with Ewan McGregor after watching the "Trainspotting" DVD. Ewan is totally down with the siccnesss like Disturbed and Vader gets even more mad. Finally he confronts Natalie Portman about Zach Braf and she totally lies about it and tells him to go marry an Ewok. This makes him so mad that he falls in a volcano and burns himself. The Emperor finds him and insists that he has to wear a helmet in case he does it again. This soundrack deserves 5 stars.
Free Music Review: A great soundtrack, even better in context of movie Hit: 5 Stars
Minutes after I saw the movie Garden State, I wanted to hear the music from the moie again. While I thought that the movie was good, I did not feel that it was amazing, especially the sickeningly-perfect ending; I felt the soundtrack production was amazing. I immediatly started searching stores for the soundtrack to the movie, yet it was hard to find. After about 5 stores telling me that they were sold out and that more should be arriving in the next week...I finally found it. It was a great relief, as I had been craving the songs from the movie (believe it or not, I had cravings like most would for chocolate.) The soundtrack did not dissapoint me either. It is now my favorite CD. The last song by Bonnie Summerville can be skipped, it doesn't fit in with teh rest of the CD...luckily, it is the last song. I also miss Alexi Murdoch's "Orange Sky". However, I love the Coldplay and Iron and Wine song. The songs on here are amazing. They truely made the movie what it is. The songs created the mood and the feeling that sticks with you after you come out of the theatre. I reccomend this soundtrack to everyone.
