Garth is not afraid to step out of the imaginary yet constrictive boundaries that society creates. The result is a breath of fresh air. This CD is Garth refinished. Instead of tried and true maple wood, it's an effort of layers and shading that is intriguing. A lot of Garth's vocals resemble Kenny Loggins. I feel the biggest contributing factor to this CD's success are the songwriters. Garth has employed some of the most gifted songwriters, with Wayne Kirkpatrick leading the pack. Wayne does not know the meaning of the word cliche. He is one of the most prolific and talented songwriters around and I am thoroughly excited to see him stepping out of his box of Contemporary Christian. He has stepped out with other artists recently, but this was a leap! The other songwriters and musicians are stellar as well. I am very impressed with the line-up. For those of you not wanting Garth to live a little, don't listen to this one. Wait for his next country CD to come out and jump back on the bandwagon. For those of you with an open mind, enjoy the switch from a band wagon to a Ferrari! Enjoy living life to its' fullest right along with Garth. I didn't know what to expect when I picked this up the first time, but I was pleasantly surprised. I am true Garth fan from the beginning, as well as other country artists, but I also enjoy a very eclectic music collection of country, jazz, pop, R&B, classical piano, and others. Many artists get caught up in their one style and sometimes the songs just start to blend together. This CD really shows Garth's talent and versatility that he can still sound fantastic doing other styles of music. I admire Garth for going out on a limb and trying something different. This is one CD I can listen to over and over and never get tired of it. It is a truly eclectic collection of songs. And for the reviewer who says it is only a marketing tool...most artists never make significant money from album sales. They are stricly a selling tool for the products that do make the artists money--concerts, appearances, memorabilia, TV specials, etc. I can understand some country fans' concern over this album, but it is only one album and not a permenant shift away from his original music. Just listen to his most recent release, "Scarecrow," and you'll know Garth Brooks isn't abandoning the genre that made him famous, just stretching his vocal wings.Free Music Review: Fantastic CD

The whole premise of Chris Gaines piqued my curiosity. After listening to the samples on Amazon, I had to buy this CD and see what the songs were like in their entirety. It's a great CD, but what surprises me is not so much that fact. Rather, I'm amazed at how many people don't get it. Is this the first time a person has done pre-release plugging for a film project? I don't think so. And what exactly is so hard to understand about this project anyway? If Madonna had done something like this, no one would give it a second thought. I guess only the eccentric among us are allowed to "branch out" and have it be okay. As far as I'm concerned, Garth can branch out in any direction he pleases. He's a great performer, no matter what he's doing. True, the music on this is a bit reminiscent of the 80's, but that's what made me like it so much. I grew up listening to every Loggins & Messina album ever released, so it's nice to have a fresh taste of that style to listen to again. Kudos to Garth for having the nerve and the brains to do this. It really is great music being played here. Let's hope people start focusing more on that fact. And maybe I'll go buy one of his country CD's now to see what I've been missing there!Free Music Review: Great cd!

Truthfully, i'm not a big Garth Brooks fan. For me, he has had a small handful of hits that i've enjoyed. The only two songs he ever did that really stuck with me and i thought were great were The Dance, and Friends In Low Places. A buddy of mine played this Chris Gaines cd for me and i thought it was amazing! THIS is Garth Brooks?? His voice is excellent and so versatile with the different styles in the songs. Whether he's doing a high falsetto voice, or a song with rap in it, he pulls it off. And i think the songs are really good. I give Garth two thumbs up for having the guts to break away from his traditional material that for the most part didn't do much for me, and try an experimental project like this. I'll be listening to this cd for years to come. Wish i could say the same thing about his country cds. But now that we're into the 2000's, his time has come and gone, and he has been eclipsed by other male country talents who i think are much better: i.e. Toby Keith and Tim McGraw. Even though both of these artists have been around for the past nine years, you don't hear too much about Garth anymore, and people seem to want Toby and Tim instead. I guess the 90s was Garth's decade.Free Music Review: Garth Brooks is man. The album bees his most good.
