Would you go back to the beginning and go in a totally different direction, without going through puberty again of course? Even if just for a day? What if you could do it with all the experience and maturity of one of the most successful careers in the music industry? Garth Brooks does this and more while illustrating an incredible diversity indicative of a true artistic genius; all within the playful confines of fiction. In a move that would be suicide for any one less secure, Garth re-writes the rules again and shows us a whole new side. It's as if to say, "This is not the me you know, but it could be. I have more depth than you realize." Throughout the album, you drift in and out of the suspension of disbelief; caught up in the concept of a pop legend, later to be reminded that this is Garth your hearing. You are reminded of who by the unique intensity and direct honesty, talent that reads through even the media circus that surrounds everything he does. I hope to see more from Chris Gains so that all of us can enjoy a such talented artist and his range of styles. It's all a little silly, but I like it. I had always admired Chris Gaines, but when my friend (also a devoted Gaines Girl)played his chart-topping "Apostle" album, I truly fell in love. I especially love the way his voice trills on "I Have Friends in High Places."Chris' cd got me involved with the Holy Spirit in the song "Answered Prayers."
My friend and other members of the Gaines' Girls Street Team are still waiting for the much anticipated movie "The Lamb." I hope we get to hear lots of his sexy Aussie accent!
Many rumors have come about with his new album "In...The LIfe of Chris Gaines." One rumor that has been spreading is that the beautiful Aussie we know and love is actually an old country singer wearing a wig in the middle of his mid-life crisis. No way! I've heard of plastic surgery but come on! I saw his concert in Melbourne last year, and trust me he's the real deal.
I camped outside Wal*Mart next to all the RV's to be the first to get his new release. I was not disappointed. He has grown from the Austrlian boy who charmed me with "Strait Jacket" to a true Rock Legend.

I bought the album for myself, a 48-yr.-old mom, because I was curious, but my 17-yr.-old daughter stole it from my truck. She usually likes rap and hard rock. I told her to keep it and bought another for me. My 13-yr.-old decided that wasn't fair and had to have one, too. She usually listens to pop, N-SYNC, Backstreet Boys, etc. Rather than have her scratch mine up, I bought her one. Same thing happened to my friend. She ended up buying 4 copies, because she had 3 boys: 12, 17, and 20. My friend is a Garth fan and usually listens to country. I like Rod Stuart and Phil Collins, etc. So I think this album is a "sleeper." Despite a lot of negative vibes shooting across the radio airwaves, it has the power to travel across a wide group of tastes and ages by "word of mouth." I just hope Garth doesn't take all the criticism to heart and give up on this other style of music. If he needs some creative freedom to continue to grow, he has a good feel for meaningful music, and people will respond to that. I know that my family will buy CHRIS GAINES' GREATEST HITS, VOL. When 'In the Life of Chris Gaines' first came out, I thought that it was going to be just another Garth Brooks album. I then saw the video for 'Lost In You' on VH1 (as well as the 'Chris Ganes Behind the Scenes' special), and my interest in the CD piqued a little bit. I went out and bought the CD, and now I can't stop playing it. One can tell that Garth's roots are really in the Pop/Rock gendre... 'Maybe' and 'My Love Tells Me So' both have a 'Beatles' feel to it (love the orchestration on 'Maybe'), 'Lost In You' will most likely be a favorite first dance song at weddings in the near future, 'That's The Way I Thought It Could Be' is an amazing song, 'Right Now' is the perfect song to sum up the year 1999, 'Unsigned Letter' has a dark and eerie feel to it (getting a bit 'experimental' Garth? )... I could go on gushing about this album. I am not really a Garth Brooks fan per se, but after hearing this album, you can be rest assured that I am going to be looking forward to the next 'Garth as Chris' CD -- if Garth is going to make another. And, I might even be tempted to go out and buy a 'real' Garth Brooks CD or two. ROCK ON GARTH!Free Music Review: Rick, get a clue man. How biased can you get?

I've read every review you've done of Garth Brooks so far. You RARELY, if ever, say anything good about this man. Now I know you think you're a complete expert on everything that's music, but you need to wake up and dump your prejudices. Garth Brooks is one of the most creative, diverse, and talented artists there is. I can back that up with first time record sales, millions made, and the reviews of those here. You can stand here all day long and tell everyone that he's horrible, but I gotta say it's getting old.
Not only do you constantly berate him for singing as others do, but you also slam him every time he does a cover. You know, since you've compared Garth Brooks to something like 20 other artists, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT HE'S JUST DYNAMIC AS HELL? Maybe you need to sit down, take off your 'I'm jealous cause Garth is the best country musician ever, and one of the best musicians of all time' glasses and wake up to reality.
Chris Gaines is just one more side of the incredibly multi-faceted musician that so many people -- even those outside of country music -- have come to know, love, and respect.
