Free Music Notes for Chris Gaines Greatist HitsFree Music Review: Garth got ripped on this one Hit: 5 Stars
I am a huge Garth fan but I just never got around to buying this album when it came out. Probably because I figured if it didn't get any air play, when he was so big at the time, that it must have been a loser. I kept hearing reviews from critics saying it was really good and that Garth should have released like his other records, not as an alter ego. I finally bought it and for once the critics were right! The radio stations really turned their backs on Garth over this one. It is a GREAT album. It does not sound like the "country" Garth but who cares! I can't believe that radio people just discounted and ignored the great songs on this CD and shame on his record lable for not promoting it more and releasing more singles off of it. He really got ripped off on all sides, with the exception of his more devoted fans and oddly enough the music critics. Garth needs to re-release some of this music with a new album cover and name on it, I am sure it would do really well.
Free Music Review: Unlike most people, GARTH understands the word ENTERTAINMENT Hit: 5 Stars
This is by far the most creatively intelligent piece of music around. It captures all genres of music and brings Garth, and his fans along for an incredible ride. The people who mistake as Garth's attempt to go POP obviously are missing something. POP isnt a music genre, its just whatevers popular. George Jones is just as much POP as Garth is. Rock is just anything with energy. The moment people started making ROCK and POP their own musical genres, music started losing its integrity. Im glad to see people like Garth who are keeping that integrity alive. Its sad that even after all his success, some fools still cant appreciate this man. Unlike POP artists, he has had NO HELP WHATS SO EVER from mainstream radio or places like MTV and yet he's way ahead of everyone else. Everybody talks about marketing. Well Elvis was in a ton of movies, and the beatles had two movies that were about them. I dont here anybody disclaiming their success.Scott
Free Music Review: Not country but I still liked it Hit: 5 Stars
OK. Let's not debate on whether or not it was pretentious of him to create this Chris Gaines persona. Let's concentrate on the album, its music and its performer. It's not country and it's not trying to be either. We find Garth in a different vocal range, reaching his highest notes with a good falsetto on the Blues tune "Lost In You". In the same genre, we have "Driftin' Away". In fact, Garth plays the cameleon on this set, imitating the Beatles with "My Love Tells Me So", going rap with Gordon Kenndy's voice "Right Now" and going solidly rock on "Way Of The Girl", "Snow In July". Garth sings Garth only on the ballad "It Don't Matter To The Sun" so it might be irritating to some but take this collection as an example of what he can do in other genres and you'll undoubtedly have to admit he's pretty good at it and this release proves he's a high class vocalist.
Free Music Review: If you don't like Chris Gaines, get your ears cleaned! Hit: 5 Stars
Ok, forget the fact that you may or may not like Garth Brooks. I hapen to like his work very much. Now let's look at Chris Gaines, even if its just a Garth in Gaines' clothing. The range that Garth/Chris shows on this album is so vast, from the sad, slow to the upbeat cant stop moving my feet! I tried this experiment with folks who arent "IN" to Garth or Country. Don't tell them, play the CD and ask what they think. Most of the folks I tried this on kept asking who the different groups were, as if it were a compilation of different artists. Many could not even pick out Garth's voice as lead vocal...this despite making the claim that they ARE Garth's number 1 fan! In closing, all I can say is, I hope that if you're reading this Garth, you'll know that you have one fan who appreciates what you've done for the world of MUSIC! Whether it be Country or Pop! Keep it up!
Free Music Review: A Greatest Hits Album That Lives Up To Its Name Hit: 5 Stars
Chris Gaines has spent the last 10 years of his music career shattering boundaries and taking an eager public (myself included) along for the ride. This Greatest Hits package is the perfect summation of his brilliant career so far. All the classic Gaines hits ("Unsigned Letter", "Snow in July", and "White Flag"--from the brilliant Grammy-Award winning STRAIGHT JACKET album) are present, of course. But we are also treated to two brand new Gaines classics in "Right Now" and the current single "Lost in You". These two new gems can rightfully take their place in the Chris Gaines canon. They are brilliant as anything he has ever done and serve to whet the appetite for next year's THE LAMB album. And, as "Right Now" proves, the acknowledged voice of our generation is evolving into the conscience of us all. Right on, Chris.
