Free Music Notes for Double LiveFree Music Review: Garth Brooks: The '90s Harry Chapin Hit: 5 Stars
I was never a country fan. I thought that country music was the stupidest form of music ever invented (with the exception of rap). I swore I would never buy a country CD. Then one night, I was watching VH1 and they showed the video for "The Thunder Rolls". I thought, "Man, Garth Brooks really sounded like rock on that one! If all his songs are like that, no wonder he's a superstar." A few months later, I was fiddling with my radio dial when I heard some station play "The Dance". I left it on, and stood transfixed for three-and-a-half minutes, struck by the tune's beauty and honesty. A heard a lot more Brooks songs I liked, and finally, I decided to get Double Live. I am here to tell you all: Garth Brooks is the most incredible live artist since the legendary Harry Chapin. In fact, he is very much a Chapin for the '90s. All 25 songs are excellent, with superb instrumental work and great vocals from Brooks. The best cuts are "The Thunder Rolls", "We Shall be Free", "Unanswered Prayers", "Friends in Low Places", and "The Dance". The final two especially. "Friends" is a killer live cut, and I still get goosebumps when I hear Brooks sing the album's finale with the audience...all 70,000 of them. So, even if you never liked country, you will at least appreciate Double Live. It is the best album ever made since Chapin at the Bottom Line. Both of these are the finest musical works the world has to offer. Buy them both.-AJR
Free Music Review: An album you won't regret getting Hit: 5 Stars
After Garth Brooks released a short, limited-time hits collection, he had pretty much made a lot of opportunities for his fans to own some of his best music. Except for one thing, there wasn't yet a live album. Now there is with Double Live, and it couldn't have been much better. While you're listening to it, you'll notice that Garth Brooks is definitely one of the best entertainers, if not the best, in country music today. He really knows how to get the fans tuned in with his live act. In Double Live, Garth Brooks performs just about all of his major hits and best known songs. Just about all of them from "The Thunder Rolls" to "The Dance" are here on this cd. It also has all the ones in between such as "Standing Outside The Fire, "That Summer," "Two of A Kind, Working On A Full House," "Friends In Low Places," and "To Make You Feel My Love." As an added bonus, there's also a new song which became a hit on the radio waves called "It's Your Song." Of course, since it's a live album, some of the songs might not sound exactly like they do on the radio, but they're still great. On the other hand, some of the songs do sound just like they do on the radio. Either way, you shouldn't be disappointed because you'll have just about all of Garth Brooks's best known songs and hits right here on this 2-cd collection. If you're a Garth Brooks fan, I definitely recommend getting Double Live, trust me you won't regret getting it.
Free Music Review: "HE DOES IT AGAIN" Hit: 5 Stars
For most artists, a live album only comes at the end of their career as a last ditch effort to squeeze in a few more sales before they ride off into the sunset and stake their claim as one of the has-beens. But, like always,Mr.Brooks has brought to the people one of the best albums ever to have been concieved. It's a step-by-step offering of some of the most important and meaningful compositions in modern American Music. In addition to all of Garth's past hits there are three new efforts on this Double-Live Album and he nails it on everyone of them. If it is possible that there are still some non-believers out there Mr. Brooks can rest assured that they will run for the hills because, like always, he has done it again. For anyone who considers themselves a country music fan or a music fan in general, this is a must have. It's one of the most generous and original albums ever produced and I'm absolutely positive that you will have a great time trying to find all seven differently packaged covers. There's no question why this man has become the Best Selling-Solo Entertainer in American Music History. I FEEL LIKE A KID IN A CANDY STORE!!! God Bless us all and God Bless you Garth, Sincerely, Justin Gragg
Free Music Review: Garth Live Hit: 5 Stars
Making a live Garth Brooks album is like trying to catch lightning in a bottle. His concerts--part revival meeting, part love-in, part circus--are spectacles best experienced on a first hand basis. But this comes as close as a mere CD can to presenting the full Garth experience. Wisely, Brooks has chosen to make the audience the star on many tracks. Hearing thousands of fans singing along to "Unanswered Prayers" and "The Dance" is a goosebump-inducing experience. Songs like "Shameless," "The Beaches of Cheyenne" and "That Summer," all fine in their studio versions, take on a new vibrancy live. But it's the upbeat songs that really shine. As Brooks and his crack band tear through rave-ups like "Ain't Goin' Down" and "The Fever," his voice takes on an edge of maniacal glee that drives the audience--and him--into a frenzy. And if the prospect of a live Garth souvenir isn't enough, Brooks has thrown in three new songs, including a duet with Trisha Yearwood ("Wild As the Wind"). The CD is also available in at least seven collectable versions, each with a different cover. Garth devotees can't go wrong with DOUBLE LIVE, and casual fans will welcome having all his hits in one handy package.
Free Music Review: If you don't know Garth, you're missing out! Hit: 5 Stars
I must have been under a rock all my life b/c only recently a friend of mine introduced me to Garth Brooks. I don't know why I was so against opening up to country music all these years, b/c this stuff is truly a pleasure to listen to!
A few years ago I was originally attracted to the genre b/c of Friends in Low Places. Now, I skip that song to hear the rest!
This album is perfect! Garth's voice never falters, and the audience is obviously so pumped, it literally makes me smile with excitement. I wish I had been at the show. At the beginning of some songs, Garth lightly will strum a few chords of his guitar and the audience goes ballistic b/c they recognize what song is going to be played. This album doesn't only include all of Garth's greatest hits, performed beautifully, but it also has the added excitement of listening to the audience's reactions.
This is a must purchase disc. Not just for Country fans, for anybody that can recognize good music!!
