Free Music Review: Gary Allan is definitely an "Alright Guy!"

"Alright Guy," heck, he's terrific! A terrific singer, that is. This new album proves that traditional artists can make it in today's country music business. The album starts off with "Man to Man", a song about who is at fault in a relationship. "The Devil's Candy" is tune about barrooms and bad girls, all to a country fiddle. "What I'd Say" is about what would happen if two people met up again: "God I've missed you since you went away/You're lookin' well/Or go to hell/Might be what I'd say." You've probably heard the rockin' "Man of Me" on the radio or seen the video, so you probably already know how much praise it deserves. With "Adobe Walls," Allan raises his voice to the level of Billy Gilman. This is the type of song you would expect to find in a smokey, mournful blues bar. On "What's On My Mind", Allan does the exact opposite, lowering his voice and soungind vaguely reminescent of Conway Twitty. "Alright Guy," the ablum's title cut, has lyrics that'll make you chuckle. "The One" is a wonderful song about true love. It sort of stands out on the album, but it is still good. "I'm Doin' My Best" follows the funny line of "Alright Guy." "I Don't Look Back"--written by Allan--says how you have to keep your past behind you. In the last song, Bruce Robison's "What Would Willie Do", Allan compares himself to Willie (if you can't guess his last name, you ain't country). All in all, this is definitely Gary Allan's best work yet, combining contemporary and traditional country into a sound that can only be described as "Gary Allen."
