Free Music Review: awesome tunes from one of the hottest acts we've ever seen

The Best of Gary Lewis & The Playboys is a comparatively affordable CD with ten songs that showcase just some of their legendary talent. These guys could perform anything they ever wanted to perform; and albums like this one prove it. The quality of the sound is excellent and I like the artwork as well.
The track set begins with one of their best hits ever, "This Diamond Ring." This has a great `60s rock flavor to it and they play and sing this to perfection. The percussion and drums work wonders for this number; and the chimes in particular are great. They handle complex tempo and key changes like the pros they were and still remain! For a very upbeat, relentlessly joyful tune, listen for "Count Me In." "Count Me In" just plain sounds good; Gary Lewis & The Playboys were born to perform songs like this and I could never tire of hearing them do this lovely ballad. There's just the right mixture of pop and rock; what a number this is! I love it.
"She's Just My Style" has a rockin' beat to it as they sing this very professionally; they handle the layers of the vocals just right and "She's Just My Style" has music that fits in perfectly with their vocals. "She's Just My Style" is certainly a major highlight of this album. In addition, "Save Your Heart for Me" charms me with its beauty; this love song is very pretty and it's truly timeless; anyone of any generation could enjoy this winning tune. Gary Lewis and his buddies harmonize to perfection--and beyond! Again, the use of the chimes works to enhance the natural beauty of this ballad.
"Everybody Loves a Clown" has a rather dynamic arrangement that holds its own very well; Gary Lewis & The Playboys do this one up right! "Everybody Loves a Clown" uses the guitars very well and the musical interlude is very easy on the ear. Very few groups could do a song as well as these heroes do here! "Sure Gonna Miss Her" has a somewhat light rock flavor to it; and I really like "Green Grass." "Green Grass" is infectiously catchy and upbeat; this is another major highlight of this CD.
"My Heart's Symphony" features Gary Lewis & The Playboys squarely front and center--right where they belong! "My Heart's Symphony" has a particularly lush musical arrangement; and there's another gem in "Jill." "Jill" is a tender love song and the album ends very well with Gary Lewis & The Playboys doing a most sensitive rendition of "Sealed with a Kiss." What an awesome way to end the album; this song leaves me wanting more!
Fortunately for us all, Gary Lewis & The Playboys turned out much more music than just the songs we get here. If you can, try to seek out some of their other more comprehensive albums--if you like this CD, you won't be disappointed with their other albums. While the diehard fan will already have these songs, this is the perfect starter or budget CD for people just discovering the magical artistry of Gary Lewis & The Playboys.
