Free Music Review: Movement in Power and Sorrow
Hit: 5 Stars

The score stands alone creating its own powerful atmosphere. At first listening it feels as if it practices the same minimalistic feel as Phillip Glass, but the listener soon finds that the depths of the music does reveal movement. The music has the swooping melodies like John Berry but a stronger even more firm hold of the feelings expressed. The melodies circulate throughout the album and capture the listener in the sad and helpless feel, but with a scent of hope hidden inside. "The Morrow," like many soundtracks, is the complete main theme and the listener is introduced to the other themes as the tracks continue. The album feels as if it is one long movement that carries the listener through. The most complete track is "The Other Side," which is the climax of the film, because it has all the melodies thrughout the album set in this one piece; powerful and moving. The other tracks also have the full strong color of music.

Free Music Review: There's no gene for fate...
Hit: 5 Stars

This soundtrack contains the best scores ever written and once again, it was done by Michael Nyman. He is, in my opinion the best contemporary composer who has created some of my other favorite music from movies such as the Piano, and the End of the Affair. The music is amazing...when i listen to it, i am touched in a way no other music has been able to make me feel. This soundtrack moves you with it's haunting, yet calm, rich yet gentle melodies. Not only that, but i also recommend the movie because it is also a masterpiece. And the music goes soooo well with the film that it is just perfect. Both create a very insightful perspective for the viewer. I think both music and film is underrated...i am suprised i didn't hear about this from other people and found the movie myself. It should be more recognized and awarded for it's beautiful performance that will stay with me for a very long time.

Free Music Review: NYMAN SCORES OSCAR WITH GATTACA, BUT THE ACADEMY IGNORES IT.
Hit: 5 Stars

When I saw "Gattaca" I fell in love with the music which is composed by Michael Nyman (The Piano, Carrington, Drowning By Numbers, etc.).

Nyman structures the music to really feel in your soul about what you really want in life and how you have to sometime make sacrifices. The music hits you in the SOUL.

This soundtrack never loses a beat throughout its entire spin. What baffles me that Nyman who has never won an oscar for scoring was totally ignored even for a nomination for this wonderful masterpiece (Gattaca)....a shame....but of course John Williams, and Bill Conti get nominated time after time for the same ole schtick.

Other wonderful compositions by Nyman are also one of my favorits "The Draughtmans Contract", and "Prosperos Books".

Nyman is a truly gifted composer who still has not got his due.

A wonderful CD with beautiful composition.

Free Music Review: the way a good soundtrack SHOULD sound
Hit: 5 Stars

An amazing piece of art. This soundtrack is how a true movie soundtrack should be done. Gattaca is a modern-day masterpiece, chilling in its reality, encouringing in its portrayal of the human spirit. After watching the hidden threads of romance, self-determination, science fiction, social commentary, and reality weave themselves into a beautifully complex movie, I thought that the soundtrack would a welcomed compliment. To my surprise, the music has a depth all to its own. Every theme in the movie is captured in the very notes of every song, but Nyman also captured the one thing that seemed intangible about the movie: the mood. Throughout the movie, one felt this eerily intriguing mood and Nyman captured that mood better than I have ever heard.

Definitely, a treat for movie lovers and music lovers alike. Scores like these will be the masterpieces of the future.

Free Music Review: A Masterpiece
Hit: 5 Stars

To be honest, I didn't get this movie the first few times I saw pieces of it on television (I never had a chance to see it in the theaters). But once I saw the complete movie, my feelings about it changed. It's a movie about hope, about never giving up, about not saving anything for the way back... Michael Nyman's score gives depth and poignancy to the story and characters, and a resonance. During the viewing in which I was finally reached by this story, I started hearing the music for the first time. It's incredibly moving and strong. I had to order the album online, as the record stores don't seem to carry it anymore. I'm so glad I did. The music is affecting, sorrowful, uplifting... perfect. And I'm glad the soundtrack only includes Michael Nyman's music-- it's the emotional core of the movie, and what I hungered to feel inside. A masterpiece of human feeling.
