Free Music Notes for Gattaca: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackFree Music Review: Very intimate music. Hit: 5 Stars
This is the very first (and up to date the only one) Nyman soundtrack for a Science-Fiction film.
The soundtrack for Gattaca is based on the usual Nyman composing and use of strings and piano in a minimalistic fashion, vith a very good result.
Music is very quiet, intimate and almost inaudible at times, very relaxing to listen to after a hard day at work.
The theme for Jerome and The Morrow is wonderful and reprised along the album, to a good result. Also magnificient are the theme for Irene, The Crossing, The Departure and Irene and The Morrow.
More varied than the soundtrack for The Piano and enjoyable to listen too.
Both Music and sound quality have a lot of presence that makes you feel like you are on the recording hall with Nyman and the musicians, very realistic and inmersing.
A masterwork.
Free Music Review: So powerful it will give you chills Hit: 5 Stars
Forget Gladiator; this is, by far, the best score ever written for any movie. No other score has so fully reflects the feelings running through its film; this score not only accomplishes this to an astounding, even haunting, degree, but it also immeasurably deepens those feelings. In a way, each piece of this score seem to contain all human emotions simultaneously: it bleeds sorrow, it strengthens hope, it stirs anger, it both tranquilizes and agitates. Listen for it and you will find it. This holism, this completeness, makes the music, as others have said, inexplicably haunting. But beyond emotions, this music will prompt you to think, as if ideas flicker subtly beneath the melodies and the harmonies: ideas about human potential, ambition, sacrifice, and strife.
Free Music Review: No Genes For The Human Spirit Hit: 5 Stars
That's what the music from the film conveys. The music is just so touching and beautiful. It makes you think of your dreams that you're trying to reach. This is the only soundtrack I have by Michael Nyman, and I didn't buy this cd right after I saw the film. The music didn't touch me the very first time until I saw the film again, and now I can't stop listening to the cd. I love the tracks that play them films main theme. Mostly when they mix it around in tracks 5 and 23. Track 22 is one that you'll be thinking about for a long time. That one I always love to listen to because it reminds me of what Vincent said which are words of wisdom. "I never saved anything for the trip back."
Free Music Review: Nyman strikes again! Hit: 5 Stars
This is one of the best music soundtracks I have heard in all my life, the only one that rivals this besides Nyman's own other works is the Star Wars Episode II soundtrack. Nyman has done wonders again, and you just cant go wrong with his work on a soundtrack. The songs are deep, touching, mellow, and curious all at once. I am no music analyst, but when you hear something good, you have to write about it and give it the credit the soundtrack deserves. Any of the movies Nyman has wrote a composed a soundtrack for are wonderful examples of how to include music with plot (Ravenous, Drowning By Numbers, and more) and this is no exception. Buy it, and never take it out of your car's cd player!
Free Music Review: Romantic Minimalism Hit: 5 Stars
Gattaca is perhaps my favourite movie of all time. Stylistically minimalist in its potrayal of a not-to-distant future, it does indeed fulfil the goal of its write/director, to wit: There is no gene for the human spirit. My wife bought me the soundtrack before we saw the film after I had heard a track from it being played in a local music store. I instantly fell in love with its romanticism and haunting sadness (nods to Jude Law's character here). Nyman is, in my opinion, possibly one of the great contemporary composers, fusing minimalist, romantic and other genres with verve. Gattaca the soundtrack is not just great music; it is spirit.
