Free Music Notes for Genghis Blues

Free Music Review: Genghis Blues
Hit: 5 Stars

I got the soundtrack after seeing the film of the same name which had come as a breath of fresh air.
It's great to hear some honest, uncontrived music performed by masters in their craft.
If you've ever doubted the concept of universality or interconnectedness then these guys of such different cultural and geographical origins could change your view.
There's a rare lot of heart in this album.

Free Music Review: WOW!
Hit: 5 Stars

I have only heard the clips online, but even the thirty second clips greatly impressed me with their quality. I am a huge fan of both Blues & Tuvan throat singing, so this CD takes the best of both those worlds & puts them together in a way that is unbelievably beautiful, especially to those who have never even HEARD of Tuvan throat singing...I definitely have this on MY wishlist!

Free Music Review: Great entertainment
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw the documentary of Paul Pena's plight in trying to travel to Tuva and the Throat-Singing competition he participated in. Wonderful example of blue's tradition and Paul's wide range of vocals. Ondal is a national treasure, keeping his peoples native music alive. Sad to hear that Paul died in 2005; lets play this music and remember him by it.

Free Music Review: and now for something completely different
Hit: 5 Stars

This movie was suggested to me a few years ago. I put the name in the back of my mind and FINALLY decided to get it. What an interesting journey Paul Pena took: From a distant shortwave radio broadcast to national Tuvan hero! The music is hauntng and sticks with you. Now I hear throat music in everything. Cool stuff. Check it out

Free Music Review: Unbelievable
Hit: 5 Stars

I saw the documentary of Paul Pena's plight in trying to travel to Tuvan and the Throat-Singing competition he participated in. This soundtrack I hope helps preserve a bit of world culture - too often lost in the rush to Americanize/westernize and swamp the world in cheap pop.
