As a George Duke fan I found this CD to be a rare treat. The tracks remind me of vintage Duke with smooth piano rifts and great jazz sound. Jazz piano lovers will enjoy.

Veteran keyboard player and producer GEORGE DUKE had a firm view of what he wanted from his new album IN A MELLOW TONE. The great players he chose for his rhythm section are bassist Brian Bromberg and drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, augmented on various cuts by sax, trumpet, acoustic guitar and percussion. Among the tunes they tackle are Duke Ellington's 'In A Mellow Tone' with vocals and some additional lyrics by George, the standard 'For All We Know', Frank Loesser's 'Never Will I Marry', 'I Loves You Porgy' and a Sergio Mendes song 'So Many Stars'. George also gets a chance to offer a new take on his Eighties hit 'Sweet Baby', which he sings in a more relaxed, intimate style than on the original hit version.Jazz Music CDs
